Thanks Ben - it felt pretty OK but I hope to get closer to my PB from this time last year before the end of the month (@1:51.2)Slacker wrote:Nice row Lindsay. How many people from your gym were in FF CTC boats last month?
Back in the day at my old gym which closed 2 years ago we had sometimes over 20 in a month as I ran it is as an intra gym monthly challenge (even the body builder behemoths would have a go at ones like August) but my new gym is not quite so erg friendly.
Active entries last month at the new gym were: Mark Christie and his son Liam, Bruce, Brad, Lana, Terry, Peter and a young lady I have called RELC as I don't know her name!
There were also liz (wife) and Brendan (son) from my family.
Glenn Rhook is a buddy from the old gym who is a fast 60+ lwt and he has now set up an erg at his work place and the young guys all had a go at the 200 - I think 4/5 altogether including his sons! (maybe they wont do the 6km so readily)

Thanks. I was just curious as with all the names you previously mentioned I knew you were responsible for getting people to fill at least several boats.

Re: Forum Flyers
Hi All,
Well I put my marker down for the CTC this morning. Not stellar but a start! I didn't bother with a WU for this morning's effort. I decided to alternate every 500m at 20 & 22 spm until the final 1K when I ramped it up a bit. My overall fitness is somewhat lacking! Plenty to work on. I thought that 2.15 would be a good average to aim for by the end of the month so to get so close on my first effort is heartening.
1. 2.21.8 / 20spm
2. 2.18.2 / 22spm
3. 2.18.2 / 20 spm
4. 2.15.6 / 22 spm
5. 2.16.4 / 20 spm
6. 2.15.1 / 22 spm
7. 2.16.0 / 20 spm
8. 2.13.9 / 22 spm
9. 2.15.6 / 20 spm
10. 2.13.8 / 22 spm
11. 2.12.1 / 25 spm
12. 2.06.4 / 27 spm
Total - 27.03.1 / 6000m / 2.15.3 / 22 spm
Lindsay - you had some really fast ladies at your old gym. I know some weren't keen on the longer distances but overall they were very good!

Yes we had a good team of ladies as well as the guys - lost them with the move but hoping that I will eventually recruit some more.

Does anyone here in the Flyers do the ROW series? I signed up earlier this year but missed the competition. I'm signed up for the upcoming series (starts early October). This one costs £12.5. I signed up under the Forum Flyers affiliation as well.

Re: Forum Flyers
No Chris I don't remember seeing this but may have discounted it as the over 50 puts me at a disadvantage but they are interesting sessions - maybe they could be done without interfering with other training but 4 in a month on top of training plus ctc and irl is a bit of a trick. (I am racing in October too which would be disruptive too I guess.)IMHester wrote:Does anyone here in the Flyers do the ROW series? I signed up earlier this year but missed the competition. Hi all,
I have just joined the Forum Flyers and have registered for the Fall Team Challenge. Hope that's ok! You all seem a very friendly bunch and welcoming of beginners. Compared to most of you, I don't row a lot, but do enjoy it for a good all round workout. I will also try to get a 6k entered for the CTC September challenge - can I enter the same row for both of these challenges, and will I automatically get allocated to the next Forum Flyers boat (V)?
Cheers

Yes, a single can used for different challenges.
In which boat you end up depends the times rowed. From fast to less fast, and will hustle through the month.

Heaps of experienced rowers here who are always willing to help.
Check out the technique videos and other training forum posts and anything specific, just ask away.
Enjoy your erging and if like me you're not one to bust a gut chasing world records, it's great for fitness and chasing your own PB goals

Re: Forum Flyers
Thanks Henry & Graham,
I definitely won't be breaking any records - 5' 3" (1.60m) and ~47kg - can be very frustrating being ranked against other "lightweights"
. I usually get better percentile rankings when I add the heavyweights too!
I have completed a 6k this evening and entered it in my log. Can someone enter it into the CTC challenge for me please (or do I need to register there somehow so I can enter it myself)?
Total: 28:57.6, 2:24.8, 26 spm
1: 2:26.2, 25 spm
2: 2:25.6, 26 spm
3: 2:25.5, 26 spm
4: 2:24.7, 26 spm
5: 2:24.6, 27 spm
6: 2:22.1, 28 spm
Really pleased with that - much better pace than my last week's rowing, and negative splits to the end!

Re: Forum Flyers
Paul, all meters entered in your logbook including your 6k CTC effort are automatically tallied for the FTC and the annual meter honor board and the affiliation standings. With the exception of the Cross Team Challenge, all is explained under the "challenges" button on your logbook page. Bit much to absorb in one sitting I know.
Register in the CTC and enter your time. If you hit a snag, private message Citroen (the CTC admin and also moderator here) requesting assistance. He'll put you right in a jiff.
