All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.3.17

Image 7th !

About 4,000 people are participating in the World Erg Challenge (and what does that say when almost TEN thousand participated in Mudness? The lure of free stuff....). How much to row in a team challenge? There's absolutely no required or set limit - people have their own goals and milestones! That said, I mention the four thousand just because one goal that teammates sometimes have is to finish in the top ten percent of those participating. Right now, that would mean that if you have earned greater than 163K in the Challenge thus far....you're on track. I'm hoping to get back on track later today after missing a couple of erging opportunities. What's driving me is that TWO million meter milestone line though....which also helps the team as I push for this.

Meanwhile, three days now with the new PM5 monitor and use of Erg Data app. Thumbs up. I haven't tried the target training games or such just yet, but these look pretty promising for those of us working to bump up the metrics and get a bit faster. What I do like: while I miss the blue logcard, I absolutely do not miss the card reader capriciousness...will it work today or not? I moved to the PM5 to go wireless. It is surely possible to use the cable connections from erg to mobile, yet I find that the headphone jack is such an inherently poor design (sort of like knees) and often fails. Also, some phones now without headphone jacks of the usual style (workarounds exist). We will see if the smartphone cradle survives puppies slamming into the rower. New monitor does seem a bit bouncier than the originally installed PM3. Get the wrenches back out...

Thanks for the several shout-outs, y'all. These little milestones and challenges are so crazy motivational, for me ... makes all the difference between, "meh, that's enough for this evening" ... and, "onwards, only another million meters till the next milestone" ... :)

Image Settled in Seventh...for now! Keep going!!

Wanna be in the top ten percent of individual contributors in this Challenge? Your total meters need to be pretty close to 170,000 m as of today. Gerald and Ed are leading the Lunie pack of 78 with almost half a million meters each. That's incredible! That puts them in the top ONE percent of the contributors worldwide.

Meanwhile, the race to YOUR specific milestone is ON! A few weeks ago, a "meters to go for next biggie" (highly technical label...snort) list was published here on the forum. Progress has certainly been made! We flock like bugs to the light at the finish line of the next milestone! Ha.

3 MM: Steve W completed, and Thor is within 30K of the goal

2 MM: Angelo and Minnie completed, and the other 8 are actively gap closing with meters to go ranging from 20K to 160K. Norma, Doug, and Will pounding the erg totals the most since the first list published.

1 MM: Dennis completed, and 9 others are actively working on their meters. Meters to go range from 38K to 178K.

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

8.6 MM Ed
2.6 MM Louis
1.9 MM K2 ...strangely hears the music of JAWS....
1.9 MM Norma

So sad, even with combined postings, I am still so very far from the head of the boat!
(From whence came the "Minnie" moniker ... "queen of the boat.")

See you in a week, TomO and I are ff to an army cadet camp over the coming week. I suspect I will be relegated to peeling spuds and onions to feed the hungry cadets who will number around 330.

In Australia many of the private schools have a cadet unit that is sponsored by the Australia Army, and TomO has his sights set on a military career.

Following is a couple of pictures of Lance Corporal O'Malley...!

Anyway, happy rowing in the meantime...
