Whoop, whoop and way to seize another golden opportunity (or maybe it was the brass ring as the erg circle went round and round)! Congratulations, Tombeur, on achieving a three million meter season! My calculations suggest that you may indeed hit the 20 million lifetime meter milestone by end of erging year...no pressure! We wish you many, MANY more meters and milestones !
woooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooo and congrats:] oh and goooooooooooooooooooo pats :}
Thank you. This time of year I tend to feel my age and find myself ready to start fading away. Having teammates like you, Kona2, and you, bg, helps me keep up the fight for one more day! On another matter, I have had correspondence with Concept2 about the Military Challenge, which as one of the scorned Vietnam veterans of an infamous war, nevertheless interests me. Three days ago I wrote this message to Concept2: "I have the Luna-Tics as my Affiliation but might like to participate in the Military Challenge. I am a US ARMY VETERAN. Unlike other challenges it appears I cannot just join a team for the Challenge but must change my Affiliation. What is the reason for this different rule?" Here is their nonresponsive anwer: "Thank you for emailing. I don’t recall the beginnings of the Military Challenge but it does operate a bit differently from team challenges. You can change your affiliation for a month and then go back to the Luna-Tics with all of your meters intact." I already knew this. I have no desire to separate temporarily from the Loonies. I asked them to tell me the reason. They did not. I am not accustomed to having my questions evaded, but before I email the company a motion to strike their answer as nonresponsive I thought I would ask if any Luna-Tic knows the reason for this idiotic rule unique to this challenge. I understand that it may be that no one knows--maybe not even Concept2! But there is no harm in asking. Thank you in advance. Tom R (tombeur).

My DH, AJ, is also a US Army Vet who served during the Vietnam era. He wondered the same thing, and we guessed that it was considerable effort for C2's programmers to write code which would allow two separate filters for the 4-week challenge. Not everyone on the team has a military standing, so they can't just throw us all into a category/sub-category, as they do with other challenges. I've enjoyed tracking down our "temporarily assigned" teammates who row for various military teams.(And, I seem to recall that US Navy mostly beats US Army ... say it ain't so!) Now that we know that you'll be back, it's all good ...

I did call Concept2 about this a couple of years ago, and recall that programming changes were cited. Many of the logbook enhancements are participant volume driven - and last year, I think less than 800 people were participants. In designing this Challenge that celebrates an individual's service in the military, since the Challenge is one that is limited to those who self-identify as affiliated with a military branch currently or as veterans, Concept2 has actually created a Challenge that mirrors one of the aspects of military service sacrifice. Specifically, serving individuals are often deployed away from friends and family for periods of time. In previous military Challenges, teammates have posted a forum note saying they were off to be in the Army or Navy or another branch, and that they would see us back here in March. So, Tombeur, if you feel the call of duty and want to participate in the Military Challenge, we'll thank you for the service that garners your entry into the Challenge, and we will hope that it is only a TDY...a temporary duty assignment...and will "see" the virtual dotted line that the programmers have yet to write!

Thank you. Knowing that I can bring the meters back to the Luna-Tics is prompting me to take the matter of my participation under advisement. I will let you know if I decide to go TDY. Since I believe only 7 percent of the population today are veterans--mind boggling to a person like me born during WWII--it is not surprising that participation is low. And on top of that, if my numbers are correct, those 7 percent account for 13 percent of the homeless, none of whom could afford these machines or membership in a good gym that has them! That statistic alone, if true, is a scandal in my opinion. Tom R (tombeur)

It's a whole new day! One that promises blue skies instead of yesterday's grey...
And speaking of colors...whether you're sporting the Falcons black, white, silver or red ... or the Patriots...Nautical Blue, white, New Century silver, or red (notice something about those colors there?), I hope the BIG game is enjoyable for you. Patriots colors listed somewhat like those new car color descriptors....what color iz it? Presidential blue or torreador red...hahahaha.
We are having some hearty snows up near Rocky Mountain National Park...the fenceline to the neighbors' place is usually a five footer...and the dogs could just walk across pretty easily if they weren't so busy snow surfing...

I've not done the Military Challenge before because I didn't want to lose a month's meters, but if I understand this correctly
I would come back to the Luna-Tics and would add my meters done during the Military Challenge. Is this correct? And will my
meters done in February, but before I joined the Challenge be added to the Challenge?
Thanks for any info.

You "own" your meters, and as you travel around the erging Universe, your meters travel with you...in your own personal meter vault. When you change your affiliation to the branch of service you would like to support during this Challenge, then ALL your meters go away from the Lunies while you are away. Any meters you have done starting Feb 1st will be your Challenge meters, and those will show up in the Challenge team rankings. When you return to the Lunies, all the meters you took with you AND the meters you earned while you were on temporary duty, ALL come back to the Lunies. No special adding necessary.
There is a March 3rd deadline for entering Military Challenge meters. I would suggest that ALL who are participating in the Military Challenge not come back to the Lunies before March 4th...just to make sure that your military affiliation is credited with your earnings.
Good luck !

Thank you Kona for the very clear explanation of how it works. I had posted a question to Concept, but haven't heard back yet.

I'm behind on so many Congratulations... fantastic meter output in the Virtual Team Challenge ... Congratulations Tom on 3 MM so far ... Congratulation K2 on crossing the 5K average. Also want to add my gratitude to K2 and AJ for making the Virtual Team Challenge so much fun. And looking forward to catching bg at the CrashBs. For those that don't already know, the CrashBs (also known as the World Indoor Rowing Challenge) will happen on Feb 12 (http://www.crash-b.org/). And you can usually see a video feed - so when we get the latest information, we should know bg's race time and erg number, and maybe catch a glimpse of her racing.
Looks like the Live Webcast site is already somewhat set up at: http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/r ... d-irc/live
bg, just to make it easier, maybe you should hold one of those Union Square fluff donuts over your head so we can spot you. Actually, you could probably use a little donut energy boost, since I think you usually like to warm up for your 2K with at least a 10 mile run.
As for me, between being sick for too much of January (with still a little bit of it hanging on), and a sudden increase of things to do at work, I have been a little out of it. Hoping things are getting back to normal.

The best of plans....don't always pan out! Was at a conference put on by Bicycle Colorado yesterday called Moving People Forward....and found that I just couldn't fit any more things (like posting!) into my day.
Starts in TWO days...
There was a news blurb this morning that caught my attention...and I'm sure most people were focused on this elk's unexpected arrival through a window well in a Hailey, ID basement (photo was posted by the Idaho Fish and Game)...but it caught my eye for a whole 'nother reason...
