LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I liked the drag factor discussion. Seems like a good time to shake up my routine a little. If I make a mistake... well, Yooper Scooper to the rescue. Looks like it can handle spent rowers, as well as snow.

Thor MW and normadelaney... thanks SO much for the tips and links! I'll do all my homework so I have better results with all the hard work. Will be in touch if things are not clear. Thanks again

Good lord, the yooper scooper demonstrator deserves a medal. That's hard work!Kona2 wrote: Here's a YouTube of how these Yoopers work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxvgd1JiCJI
These bunny trails of the mind just come to me throughout the day and then you get them and think for sure I am on the right team. And now you know about Yooper Scoopers.
Of course, our fearless Astrogator deserves a medal, too; plus a beer slushie.

New Life was breathed into some of the overall participants, and there are no vaporizations to report. I guess the airlock was closed for maintenance.

Wow, quite a payday. That makes California Chrome the richest horse in history, and he's not done yet.Drivetofast wrote:Chrome wins Dubai 10,000,000 dollar World Cup 2:01![]()

He's A Meter Multi-Millionaire! AGAIN !

Whoop, whoop and what a boatload of meters Richard T just deposited in his meter piggy bank! Chasing the 10 million plus carrot like California Chrome, he races along the edge of the Erging Universe in tune with the thundering hooves. Yep, it's springtime and this man's fancy turns to horses (maybe with a motorcycle thrown in once in awhile). Congratulations, Richard T, on achieving NINE million meters (and then some). We wish you many, MANY more.

And for the Dubai World Cup, start your engines with a horse race gents and gals:

Well, good for you my friend. If you do figure out the drag factor stuff, please explain it to me. I have played with it and I still find there is not quite an explaination for how it works. Well, I guess I'll add my two cents - may not be worth that much.Thor MW wrote:Well, good for you my friend. If you do figure out the drag factor stuff, please explain it to me. Although it ia a tempting analogy, dag factor is not really a resistance level. Your effort is not determined by the drag factor; your effort is determined by your pull. Different people find that different drag factors work best for them. Some compare the bigger numbers to a big rowboat and the smaller numbers to a racing shell. And different people find their best performance somewhere in the middle that they have to find for themselves. The initial guideline is usually in the 3-4 range, if using a newer (or at least clean) machine (that is not located at some altitude where the air is thinner). For most normal people, if they are racing a sprint distance, they prefer a higher drag factor - feels like more bang for the buck. But it is also important to remember there are exceptions. You will find references to Rob Waddell (whose 2000m WR from 1999 still stands) won a CRASHB with a drag factor set as low as 99. I have also read about people reducing the drag factor as they got a little older because what once felt comfortable, now seemed to be creating too much stress on the back. I always like to heed the lessons of aging.
For me personally. I like a good workout, but I am not really being scientific about it. I'm going by feel. Although someone who knows me might think I'd approach this very analytically, I have to confess that, when I watched Chariots of Fire, I was much more drawn to Eric Liddell than Harold Abrahams.
And it is also important to reinforce the notion that an accurate drag factor is more than just the number on the fan adjustment (although that has already been discussed). Bob S. (a frequent contributor to different forums, and a legend in his own time) has pointed that out more times than I can remember, and I wouldn't want him to see lapse into a sloppy representation of drag factor, as he might see it.

As much as you admire California Chrome, it is my belief that CC would have his hands full with you.
Onwards to 10 million. But save a little for the Breeder's Cup.
