Currently I am working on the 2k IA program and I'm about 3 weeks in. I am a competitive Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter and also recently got into Olympic Weightlifting. I look forward to your response!

Alrighty then! A member from Brazil. Maybe not our last? Adam, FF also needs and welcomes the ladies as boats don't float without at least one aboard. In case you know someone who would also be interested in the challenges? Jack

Ok cool. I'm a personal trainer by trade so I may be able to wrangle up a woman to row for us. Just FYI I'm not from Brazil :) I'm from NYC, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that I compete/ practice in.

Thanks guys! I look forward to rowing with you. I will leave my old team and joint up with you guys.

I just registered for the CTC. Like I said earlier I'm working on my 2k right now so unless next months challenge is a 2k time trial I may sit that one out. Do you guys compete in every event regardless of current rowing goal?

If possible we do most ctc s. If you do it at 100% is up to you, some do, others some months just put in a training result.

I can try it out next month. Sounds like fun.

BTW, is standing start from an actual standing position? Or just seated? May be a dumb question but I've never heard this before. Thanks!

It means, from a non moving fan, which is only a point during interval work, where you can use "flying" starts.

Btw, if you are training for a 2k and don,t do longer sessions, you are selling yourself short, 2k and above is very much an endurance sport, 500 and below needs more power and sprintwork. Rowers (top) often row around 200 km per week.

Ok cool. I do some longer work for the 2k, for instance on the 2k Interactive Program I got off of ISS website calls for one UT1 workout a week (which is planned for today 2x12'). I can try a 5k instead of you think it fits nicely into my current plan. Am I eligible for this months challenge?

A standing start is a stationary start. Rower is seated at the catch posiion, hands extended on the handle, That is the position of " sit ready" in competition. I haven't seen a Lemans start but I believe the ultra distance relay teams have one member roll off the seat onto the floor and his replacement jump on. What condition constitutes a "dead wheel" is a bit more complicated but for most purposes the flywheel is considered stationary if the monitor is not registering distance. In just the right light, one can observe thru the perfmetal shroud that the flywheel coasts slowly to a stop after the monitor has ceased to record sensor information.

Please excuse my colossal ignorance of martial arts, Adam. Not that it wouldn't be nice to have a Brazilian Flyer. Maybe we do?

It you do the plan you are aimed at 2k. Thats fine.

Yes you are, even an easy result can help the team, the number of boats we place is a factor for choosing a next challenge. Simply put, the more the better.

You could swap a 2x12 for a 5 k yes. Maybe do an additional few minutes after, but roughly the training effect will be comparable.

Just did my 5k and submitted it to the CTC. Did it in 20:08:3, nothing to write home about but it's a start.

Hi
you are very welcome to join us. The flyers are from all around the world - where are you based?
We talk to each other here and also on the UK site - the Forum Flyers Chit Chat thread.
http://indoorsportservices.co.uk/forum/ ... 51#p635751

There is also a relatively basic FB site that struggles a bit because there are some (guilty your honour) who are pretty anti all that.
To join the CTC you just nominate the team when you register and then you will be placed in a boat as described by Henry.
If you are already signed up then just go in and edit your details and change the club membership - there are no hard feelings from anyone.
You can enter as many times through the month as you like as you improve times.
The challenge for January is 5km and the one for Feb hasn't been announced yet but will be very different.

Thanks Lindsay, I already rowed a 5k yesterday and did it in 20:08, going to give it another go over this coming weekend. Having fun so far, I'll pop over to the UK site as well and poke around.
