Hi Lisa. Ditto, to what everyone else said. Being a member of TimbukTOO is what has motivated me, and credit goes largely to you. I hope that you stay in the boat as a team member.

Just wanted to add: in terms of meter updates, I personally would be fine with a weekly aggregate update of all the meters rowed. I know some people may like to see it daily, but for me weekly would be sufficient. Whoever takes over the role of Captain and Coxswain may feel compelled to update daily, so I wanted to voice my opinion, for what it's worth.

Really I just like to see the "chatter" on the board. Sharing in each others' pain and suffering (also known as "exercise") is what the team forum is all about, in my opinion!

My $0.02 in the jar.

I agree with this, though I think that during team challenges I may want to see additional posts.

That would go a long way to helping keep the commitment from becoming overwhelming, for sure.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Post by Izzzmeister » February 3rd, 2015, 3:44 pm

Last night, I finally did a 2K for speed. I finished a few tenths of a second faster than 6:55. My race (at the Cincy Indoor Rowing Champs) is this coming Sunday. Last year, the race for 50+ vets finished as follows:
Eric Wuerfel: 6:41.2
Michael Robinson: 6:51.6
Yisroel Homnick: 6:54.6
Scott Downer: 7:14.9, etc.

I had started working out hard to beat The Wuerfel (who beat me in 2012 as well), but I've been slowed down by forearm tendinitis (from heavy tricep dips & presses), shoulder tendinitis (from heavy bench presses), lower back sensitivity (from heavy deadlifts) and hamstring cramps (after rowing speed work, from heavy hamstring curls & squats).
The good news is that I'm stronger than I was last year, having slapped on a few more pounds of muscle. The bad news is that I'm rowing at 7-10 pounds more than I did last year, which will slow me down some.
I don't see The Wuerfel signed up yet for the race, but Michael Robinson is. If he's at about the same speed as last year, I should be able to put on a strong finishing sprint to beat him. But my 6:54.7 last night puts me at essentially last year's speed (6:54.6), despite having aged another year, so I'm not complaining.

Then, I need to decide whether to invest in flying to the CRASH-B's in Boston on March 1, for the first time in 4 years...

Add my vote in there, too, LIsa (and Cap'tn). I enjoy reading the posts (largely in a cumulative form at the moment for reasons that I don't want to know about so why would anyone else?) and although I know I haven't been contributing, I am still following all the threads that others are sharing, and laughing or commiserating with you from afar.

As proof: I have a cat. The picture I tried and failed to attach is of my former furry friend, the uber of all uber cats, Noni, who left this world 4 January 2014, leading to the grief stricken adoption of my current puddytat, Elsa, on 5 January 2014, whom I have only just recently come to love dearly. Rebounds, beware!

Vis-a-vis employment: long and chequered, with highlights as a hospital-trained RN (in Tasmania) when I was married, followed by a B.Comm when I divorced so I could get decent jobs and raise my son so he could have at least some opportunities unavailable to many single-parent families. Time passed, I've been on LTD for the past seven years and likely will be until 65 unless I can get my creative spark flowing again and hit the best-seller list. I'm painting as well, but everyone knows you only make it in art when you're dead, so I'll pass on that option, thanks all the same.

I'm rowing like hell these days because I'm fed up with the fatty aftermath of hypothyroidism: all is well on that front, but losing weight is harder these days, especially since I, too, love eating. Loved the post about caramelized onions and the picture of those crullers (I think that's what they were) had me drooling. More, please.

All the best to one and all,
Heather

Those were crullers- and we both fried some and baked some.
I have been on vacation in SF and also am resting- trying to recover from some tendinitis in my hands.
Resisted the temptation to row at the JCC in SF-worked out on their Adaptive Motion Trainers- ATM for short.
Feasted on some regional Chinese cuisines- shanghaiese and Shangsi also on great Indian and on award-winning burritos( really), had a Korean-style oyster po'-boy, and roasted pork Bahn-mi.
San Francisco is where I go to eat and using the gym while there assuages any guilt.
