You're right that the rankings are performance based and not distance based. I was thinking more along the line of rewarding consistency and improvement. So rewarding consistent rowing over the year might be a way to get people motivated to keep at it.

Also, how about a reward based on improved times and distances. so if you beat your own PB or SB or last years total distance, then you get recognized.
I like both of those ideas. They have challenges for consistency (Mud Madness and to a lesser extent Dog Days) but expanding the concept would be great.

Tracking improvements would be fairly simple and they could do it simply with certificates like now and possibly add some sort of online badge system if they ever update the site to be more interactive. Of course right now I'd just like it if it didn't offer to rank my 2K recovery rows

A badge system would be perfect. As you say though, this site needs a major overhaul to bring it up to modern standards.

Easily fixed: recovery rows should be 2001 or 1999 meters. :D

Good that you're feeling better. Take it slow coming back, this year's flu strains are mean little critters.

Watch out... This thing is nasty. Just when you think you're feeling better, WHAM. It takes you down again. I'm on day 8 now. :(

Our Intrepid Cap'n has apparently fallen overboard again. If he doesn't come up for air soon I'll see what I can do about posting. Sorry about this, folks.

Hi Team,

As you may have noted, no daily meters have been posted this week. Izz has not contacted me to let me know where he is or what is happening. This is by no means an isolated occurrence. I usually post in his stead and take it with good grace. I no longer wish to do that.

My position with this team has become troublesome and I have let the Captain know I do not intend to carry on with it after the end of the season. I have done my best for a long time now -- over four years -- but I need to retire from my role and move on.

I'm sorry if this post seems harsh or abrupt, but straws and camels, etc. I don't wish to leave the team high and dry, which is why I've given such a lengthy notice. I will stay with the team if the hand on the tiller is strong and the winds are fair.

Feel free to post ideas, flames, commiserations, support, insults, or recipes for homemade cough remedies.

Meanwhile, row strong!

Sorry to hear that :(
Hope you do stick around and I'd also like to thank you for all your efforts.

In other news, I'm afraid I won't be able to add any more meters for the challenge as I've picked up a cold...

Cheers

Lisa,
Thanks for everything you have done and continue to do.
This virtual world requires different social behaviors, but in the real world you would be the type of person who I would value as a friend.
