Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Just a heads up, after this season, maybe even after this challenge, I am going to be cutting down on my endurance rowing and stepping up on shorter, faster rows as I just am not burning fat as much as I would like. Even though I am currently at 169 lbs of lean body mass, (still over 200 lbs though ) I want to get down to 150 lbs, with a lean body mass of at least 135 so time to switch training tactics now that my old heart can stand it. (I am sure I will sneak in some endurance rows every now and then, like once a week cos I am not sure what I will do with all that spare time... LOL)
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Shorter, faster rows are never a bad idea. I think that we all need to alternate our exercise routines, if for no other reason than to keep things interesting and vibrant. I always thought that C2 should reward more than just volume. Good luck with the new strategy and with your goals.Cikan Vuz wrote:

By the way, I hope you don't mind that I did a little stalking and went to your "other hobby" web site. Fascinating journey from what I saw.

Yes, I have to admit, I am getting bored of the endurance rows too.. If I could be on water, it probably would be different and I would have rowed round the world by now ....ronmardix wrote:Shorter, faster rows are never a bad idea. I do try to alternate it a zip it up but I end up flatlining and zoned out these days. Taking 4 days off to go to Buses by the Bridge was fun though I did stare at the river and wished I had a scull to be on rather than sitting and entertaining tourists.... And no, I do not mind if anyone goes to my other hobby and views our trials and tribulations there; life is more than sitting behind a monitor, right?

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Diana, whatever will we do without your supremely high meters logged? The Good Ship TimbukTOO will sink!
But I know what you're talking about--I'm on track to row 3MM this year, and I am astounded to say that I have actually GAINED weight. I row almost daily until I'm drenched with sweat. So, I too have started to mix it up. I subscribe to the Workout of the Day, and often do intervals: 5:00 fast, 2:00 slow. Or 1,000 m with a 1:00 easy. I use my heart monitor as a gauge--I go for about 130 HR on the easy/rest (which is about 75% MHR), and 150 or higher (which is about 85% MHR) on the intervals. Sometimes I go higher than 160. I use the NEWER method of calculating maximum HR. Old wisdom said it was 220 minus your age. Now they are saying that's too moderate. I read this in the NY Times a while back. "They" say to take the number 211 and subtract 64% of age for your MRH. http://www.maxworkouts.com/articles/ent ... ur-results
It sometimes feels better just to folderol around with a strong, solid row, But I feel energized when I do hard sprints.

It would be really nice if C2 rewarded more than just mega-meters.Bobbie_Zee wrote:Diana, whatever will we do without your supremely high meters logged?
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
It's easy to reward meters. They "reward" pure performance with rankings.ronmardix wrote:It would be really nice if C2 rewarded more than just mega-meters.Bobbie_Zee wrote:Diana, whatever will we do without your supremely high meters logged?
I'm not sure what a good alternative reward system would look like.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Certainly seems a better estimation. I find that for me it calculates about 13-15 beats below what I've consistently seen on my HR monitor for maximum so if you really want to know then some pain is in orderBobbie_Zee wrote:I use the NEWER method of calculating maximum HR. Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
So I'm not thinking about an alternative system, but a concurrent system. Additional rewards rather than alternative rewards.lcantey wrote:

You're right that the rankings are performance based and not distance based. I was thinking more along the line of rewarding consistency and improvement. So rewarding consistent rowing over the year might be a way to get people motivated to keep at it.
Also, how about a reward based on improved times and distances. so if you beat your own PB or SB or last years total distance, then you get recognized.
I may not be able to beat others in distance or time for any number of reasons (age, disability, inferior genes), but these are ways that I can still compete, improve, and be recognized.

Looks like I'm done for this challenge. Went well over my original goal of 200k but short of my ambitious updated goal of 275k
