Well, **I** didn't know, so I looked it up.
Threetard (or 3-tard):

Speaking of porcine treats, and me not keeping Kosher, I roasted a pork belly over the weekend- 3 hours at 425- recipe from the Loveless Cafe in Memphis. It was soooooo.....good!
That is one reason why I row :D :D

I appreciate that the Boys of Brooklyn, my hometown, are represented so ably, and that you're really taking responsibility for your health after decades of a sedentary lifestyle - and loving it!
I'm also a fan of kettlebells (esp. kettlebell swings, a great prep for rowing), intervals as a great complement to distance rowing, etc. You're doing all the right things - I would like them to just have the beneficial effects, without them dragging nasty stuff like overtraining in their wake...

Your feedback is spot on Izzy. After breaking free of the sedentary lifestyle, I do struggle with when to rest and how much is required. I understand the science and know that progress requires rest. I still have some pounds to lose. Did some light conditioning work today and avoided my ergo-chariot! Arms feel much better today. :D Go Brooklyn! Thanks for the feedback  Happy New Year too!

Thanks Gary (and Lisa). Woke up this morning with a cold so will skip rowing for a day or two - shame :(
I'd like to do a few more HMs, try a 30km and then have a go at a full marathon. I'm not too worried about times for these longer distances (at the moment, anyway) just want to tick them off.

Cheers.

Final day of the Challenge we overcame Greenville after trailing them for over a week can we hold the position with a final turnout today? Just give what you can.

Yes, well I prefer this:
Engine room:
The middle rowers in the boat. In an 8-person shell, these are generally seats 6, 5, 4 and 3. They are generally the biggest and strongest rowers, who provide most of the power to the boat.
But then again, since I'm sitting 3-seat I'm clearly dumb enough to believe anything I'm told, so I guess I fit both descriptions of the position.

Interesting article on NYTimes blog--What's Your Fitness Age? posted today 10/15/2014. A Norwegian study of "fitness age" determined primarily by a measure of cardiovascular endurance shows it's a better predictor of longevity that chronological age. It's determined by your VO2max--a measure of your body's ability to take in/utilize O2. These Norwegian scientists developed an easy test for estimating VO2 max. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/10/1 ... tness-age/

There is a link to this quiz on the blog--despite my less-than-6-pack ab status, my daily rowing and good eating habits gave me a "fitness age" of 29 years old (I'm 57).

Moral to the story: Keep on rowing!

I'll do my final FTC row after work--plan to reach 295K.

Hail Team TimbukTOO!

They just had an ~500k jump so we are currently trailing by almost 480k. Heading in for a row soon...

Team, I want to give a dedicated post to our top season and challenge rower, Diane Michna, who achieved an amazing 3 MILLION meters throughout the challenge, and placed in the number 1 spot for individuals in meters rowed!!

Since I've been with Concept2 and TimBukTOO (2009), Darlene Brennan has always held the top spot for individual effort during these challenges. I think Diane wanted to challenge herself to take the top spot, and said in the past that she received encouragement from Darlene and others in past challenges. Well, she put that encouragement to good use this time and pushed on through what must have been a grueling competition.

Congratulations Diane! You are amazing, and I hope you rest up for a while now!!!
