You seem like a congenial group! I've joined up, and registered for the team challenge. I'm shooting for about 40k-50k a week. I'm not speedy, but I'm slow and steady! --Bobbie

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I'll remember the LSD. I row both on my Concept 2 at home, plus at the gym where I work (it's a university with a rowing team). I am sometimes intimidated by the speeds of the "kids" (30+ years younger), but I do what I can do. And my form is getting better. And my endurance is getting better.CONLEJM wrote:Welcome aboard, Bobbie! Slow and steady is the way to go. We call that "LSD": Long, Slow, Distance!Bobbie_Zee wrote:You seem like a congenial group! Pretty wild ride, man!!glenmbaker wrote:Hey, it was a tough week. I really should have logged more meters because at least some of those were done on an erg that was on a ship, so I was really covering WAY more water with each stroke! (but the darn erg was aimed port to starboard so the captain kept yelling at me to stop turning the ship). Also, aren't there bonus points for erging in Alaska while all the other passengers are anti-erging at the buffet lines??damselfly wrote: Glen B - 16,133 Down from the clouds for a few meters! (Do coxed meters count? )
And to top it off, I couldn't erg or row on the weekend because I had to go do this: http://www.doarama.com/view/1268
Like I said...tough week!
Why would anyone leave Oregon for Alaska?!?!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Phew, I am tired! LOL
I normally do not row on the weekends, but since my kidlet has a water polo match tomorrow, I might meander over to the gym after dropping him off at school and see if I can hit the 500k mark tomorrow as I hit the 475k mark with today's workout
And Bobbie_Zee, I hear ya on slow and steady! That is how I row as well and I go for endurance (but I am also getting faster)!
Keep up the great work everyone!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Yes, I talked my husband into joining the team and the challenge! Hopefully we will motivate each other. Nothing like a little friendly competition to get you moving We will be away next week visiting our son in Salt Lake City, so there won't be much rowing going on. However, we will be hiking, and will be ready to row when we get back.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Good idea, Kris, getting your hubby to sign up! You can ask him if he got his meters in before you feed him dinner. (Hmmmm... maybe I should try that! ) Have a great time in Salt Lake City! My hubby and I vacationed in Heber City last year (just a bit south-east of Salt Lake). Hiking in the Uinta mountains was GREAT! I highly recommend it.quilter35 wrote:Yes, I talked my husband into joining the team and the challenge! Hopefully we will motivate each other. Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Glad I finally found this. As a newbie to rowing, I am open to all sorts of feedback and advice. Thank for the openness and friendliness of the team, I am happy to join and am looking forward to the Fall Challenge. My goal is to row 200k minimum. I know I can consistently knock off 10k rows, but my times are mediocre. I loved the Dog Days challenge. I want to row at least one HM during the challenge. I rowed 20 k once during the final week of the dog days challenge, but it was split into two 10k rows with at least 4 hours in between. Do I need to train before attempting a HM? I have rowed an hour before and did roughly 13k then. Next question, I am trying to improve my 2k time. I finally broke 8 minutes @ 7:55, I am wanting to improve my time so I can row more meters in a much shorter . I can't seem to row fast at fewer then 35 strokes per minute. I have read that I should be able to row same distance/time at a lower stroke rate, any advice here is welcome. I am trying to focus on proper form and driving hard with my legs and relaxing on the recovery. I generally set the damper between 4 & 5. I started August first, is it reasonable to expect myself to row 1 million meters during my first year of rowing (indoor rowing only).
