Whoop, whoop and hooyah! Laurie's name is indeed on the FULL MARATHON list and she's on top of the world! Get the gravity belt out! We need to reel in Voodoogirl before she floats into another galaxy! Congratulations, Laurie, on a FIRST EVER FULL Marathon! Shine on, shine on, shine on! We wish you many, MANY more!

Hooboy! Were movies involved?
A belated thank you!! It had to be voodoo, Minnie, because that's all that got me through...surprisingly, all I had the day after was a sore toe!

I would not have even attempted it if not for the inspiration and encouragement I find here--thanks to everyone!

Hooboy! Were movies involved?
And oh yes, I was working my way through the four Jason Bourne movies, and had saved the last two (sadly, the worst two!) for a full marathon. I'm a slow long-distance rower, so knew I'd need a solid four hours of extreme diversion--WITHOUT any quiet, intense, must-pay-attention dialogue! One can follow car chases and underwater escape attempts quite easily while at the same time struggling with exhaustion.... :D I figure if secret CIA agents can fight their way through four days of continuous hand-to-hand combat and gunfights and flashbacks, I can certainly spend an afternoon rowing....

One of the folks at Concept 2 told me once that they often row marathons while watching movies, and they play games with them--for instance, doing a power 10 every time there's a gunshot. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS I didn't make THAT part of my protocol for this marathon! (of course, I'd have finished about an hour earlier if I had...)

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.28.13

Image Image We've had a few first time ever half and full marathoners in recent weeks. Now that they've completed ONE....will they do another in the Global Marathon Challenge?!?! We've heard tales that these extraordinary feats aren't too painful on the day after the half or the full marathon....but what about the day after the day after?! Always thought that second day after a marathon was the toughest, but I have limited personal data.... Could be that another round of Moon Fever is almost upon us....

Image And then there's another kind of fever.....Derby fever! On Derby Eve (that's May 3rd), the Rose Team will be assembling the rose garland to be draped over the Derby winner's saddle. Each year, a garland of more than 400 red roses is sewn into a green satin backing with the seal of the Commonwealth on one end and the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs (the Derby racetrack) and number of the race’s current renewal on the other. Each garland is also adorned with a "crown" of roses, green fern and ribbon. The "crown," a single rose pointing upward in the center of the garland, symbolizes the struggle and heart necessary to reach the Derby Winner’s Circle. Tradition used to be that a silk replica of the garland was presented to the owners of the winning horse. Now, the actual garland is preserved by sending it to Danville, KY to be freeze-dried.

Today and tomorrow are the FINAL two days in this rowing season, and then it's a wrap! You're on the home stretch!

Image Hooboy! It was Christmas again when I checked in on the team numbers this morning - lots of returning faces, and one new one: welcome to Todd ! And, if the weather forecasters are correct, it's going to look a lot like a snowy Christmas morning here as we get more Springtime in the Rockies. Say it isn't so....about seven inches of snow predicted for the Denver area tomorrow. Rats. I know. Good for drought conditions.

This is it! Southern hemisphere has closed out their 2013 season, and we have mere hours left in the northern hemisphere! Concept2 officials are waving the white flag signifying that this is the last lap of the rowing season. Some teammates have finished their rowing season, and the checkered flag is waving them past the finish line. The crowd goes wild....the atmosphere is electric....and the ergs are ever so manual ! Enjoy a victory lap today....what a season for everyone! Some milestones are SO CLOSE...you CAN do it !!

Image Every so often, we get to witness some sports moments that are significant in the lives of the young players and their families. New Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado's family was in the stands at Dodger Stadium last night to get a chance to watch him play - he had just made it to the big leagues a day or so ago. Not only did they get to see him get his first major league hit, they witnessed his first major league home run. It was a scene that every parent who has watched their child play sports could relate to...and every teammate in the dugout knew exactly what it felt like to get that first hit, score that first run, and get that first home run. Kind of like how we all cheer on our teammates who are getting their first evers, too. :D

Season meters as of 364/365 = 175,410,504 m

Total meters on the day = 10,202,578 m (astrogator surely fainted this time)

Oars in space (participation) = 26 percent

2013 Season - It's Complete !

Post by Kona2 » May 1st, 2013, 11:14 am

ImageImageImage Image

Every rowing season is different, just as our Luna-Tics team can be different from year to year. We finished the year with 168 teammates and 178,512,167 m (so far). For the fifth year in a row (wow!), we finished with a team of meter millionaires as our average meters per teammate once again exceeded ONE million meters. This was not a sure thing (indeed it never is), but it's an accomplishment that everyone of us can smile about. Many teammates popped back into visibility at the end of the year, and it was a wonderful thing. We rank third overall out of 1,777 teams in the rowing universe. And, we'll have to carry some sunshine in our hearts as we say a final goodbye to former teammate Sunny.

Season meters as of 365/365 = 178,512,167 m

Total meters on the day = 3,101,663 m

Oars in space (participation) = 16 percent
