I thought I ought to give the team a heads up-I'm out of commission for a bit-got a really nice case of shingles. Rather uncomfortable (well,painful)-hope it goes away soon.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Thanks! Was never really a Neil Diamond fan (though I like a couple of his tunes) but I thought his stuff was in my key and fit my voice. If it fits, wear it! I consider myself a guitarist first who can sing some. (not the other way around) Never sang much in the bands of old. I bought the Eric Johnson Strat a couple of years ago because of a deal TOO GOOD to pass up. And not that I'm an Eric Johnson fan but I got to see him a week or so ago. That guy can play! Even though I would have rather seen Larry Carlton the night before.dr. espo wrote:Holy crap Bob, I thought that was Neil Diamond singing, no kidding, that was right on! So you can sing AND play the guitar, good for you
Hey Mike,
I have a Collings Dreadnaught (D2H) in a beautiful sunburst. I've always been an electric player and am the original owner of a 1968 Gibson ES335 in beautiful condition.
Check out my acoustic "Demo" sometime at http://www.soundcloud.com/AcousticSkyline
And that 68 Gibson must be a killer, NICE! I went and got a Jeff Beck Signature Strat earlier this year, in Surf Green no less...I am stuck in the 60's with Surf Music!
I grew up in Flushing, Queens but am now in Bethlehem, PA, where on LI are you located?
Mike
Anyway, hope to get a good row in a little later today. Looking forward to the Diabetes Walk tomorrow on the Jones Beach Boardwalk. Suppose to be a beautiful day.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hi All,
So maybe it's been a while since I posted on the forum. I KNOW that most of you here know how rowing helped me get control of my diabetes, lose weight (which I never knew that I even had 25 lbs to lose), and get into about the best shape I've ever been in.
I've been pretty bummed by the results I have gotten from the 228 "friends" on facebook with helping with my Fundraising efforts for the Diabetes Walk that I am participating in. The results I got from my "Team" was even worse. For people who are so into rowing and the benefits it has it's really disheartening.
I think I'm just going to bow out of this team and teams all together and just row myself away. Wish I could say it's been great!
Bob

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey Bob,
Couple of random thoughts. It's really impressive about your journey in getting healthier. I am most definitely not a facebook guy, and didn't know that you were even raising money to help finds a cure (my participation has been low here for a while-mostly due to health stuff). Diabetes runs in my family, and I did a 60 some mile ride a while back to raise money for the same thing. Hate to see you leave-we need people like you around here-especially people who are willing to put forth a bunch of effort to help others. I am willing to put up some dough to help your effort-don't have a lot (took a beating because of the economy and health crap) but pm me and I'll pony up some dough.
How about we all try to help Bob as a team with his effort and see if we can do our part to help other people out?? A couple bucks from those who can do it might be the couple bucks that helps to fund a cure for this terrible disease.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey Bob, I'm really sorry to hear you feel that way. I feel doubly bad because I truly did have the intention to pledge your efforts (as I did Matthew Patton when he did something similar last March). I have been swamped with my own stuff lately and I was surprised when you posted that the walk was already occurring, and chagrined that time had gone by so quickly and I didn't do what I had intended. I didn't realize we could still pledge after the event (if we can). I'd be willing still to do so if it's possible.
I do want to say though that I feel your expectations of the team might be a bit high. As someone who posts here almost daily, has a thumb on the pulse of the forum participation, and also closely follows the rowing participation, I can say that it seems most folks don't check in here too often, and are many times distracted by life and their own physical and fiscal challenges. Remember when I PM'd you a while back because you'd dropped off the map and I was concerned for you? You were OK but had gotten really busy with work (which is a good thing!). Well, that's par for the course. You let us know on Sept. 25 about the walk, and the walk was Sept 30. Probably most people on the team didn't even see the message, like Smitty said.
It would be a shame to lose you from the team, but do whatever you need to do. I'm sure we all wish you the best, including continued good health and fortune, and am glad that hopefully for a while this team was able to support you in that quest, at least a little bit.
Best wishes,
Lisa
Edit to add: Well, that's how out of it I am, as I didn't realize the 30th was tomorrow. (I haven't been sleeping well lately. Oh well.) I've made a donation. Good luck with your fund-raising, and I hope you have a great walk tomorrow.

As we say bon voyage to two more teammates (Bob and Terri), we still hold a solid 8th place, and we're closer to 7th than 9th is to us, if that makes any sense. A tired but toned 12 of 45 members (27%) logged 164,567 total meters Saturday!

Get well soon. This is the best I could find for you:The Blacksmith wrote:I thought I ought to give the team a heads up-I'm out of commission for a bit-got a really nice case of shingles. Rather uncomfortable (well,painful)-hope it goes away soon.
Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles." So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.
Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had.
Bubba said, "Shingles." So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining room.
A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles." So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.
An hour later the doctor came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles." The doctor asked, "Where?"
Bubba said, "Outside on the truck. Where do you want them?"

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I did 12 minutes on the treadmill. I made the mistake of chatting the guy up at the beginning and then he kept asking me questions while I was running straight up a wall at 6 miles per hour! His final questions was, "We've gone 12 minutes. Do you want to do 3 more?". Seriously? Of course I don't want to do 3 more. Why would you even ask that? If I had known that I had the option we would have stopped at 9.damselfly wrote:Andy I - 4,000 How'd the stress test go? Green light for the Crash-B's?
Anyway, no one has called. They'd call if it was bad. I have a physical today so we'll see if my internist and cardiologist new computers systems really talk to each other.
What I do know is:
1) surviving a 3-day weekend of college football and brewery tours in Seattle proves that my liver is working great.
2) Running and rowing are very different.
3) I've dropped out of the top 100 for the FTC so I need to get rowing again
