TimbukTWO is now in 5th place, having passed the Greenville team at ~ 1:30pm today.
Way to go team! Keep on rowing!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
OK, now we're 750K meters behind the Greenville team in a matter of a few hours. How did that happen? They must all upload their meters at once. Weird.
We were about 50K meters ahead of them earlier this afternoon.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Not sure I understand how this team challenge works. We are competing with teams that have over 100 members while we have half the number of people. So we as a team have to work twice as hard just to stay equal.
Where is the logic in that? Am I missing something?

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Holy crap, Greenville really launched ahead, didn't they? Yikes. People may still be joining teams too, which can add meters fast.
Yeah, we've always just considered overall total meters in terms of team placement for the challenge. We have some pretty heavy hitters so we do well compared to teams with more members. If you sort by average meters per member, we drop way back to 21st, behind "Row Bears" and "Rowing for Beer". How embarrassing!
Some of those teams are a hoot! There's another beverage-based team "Will row for beer", and one I can't even fathom, "Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead" (say THAT three times fast!) which has 2 members averaging 99,383 meters per member, whoopin' up on us!
And the ever popular, "The Erging Will Continue Until Morale Improves"!!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Ugh, that's a long row for an old man! I am going to try it for a few more days, but 15K or 16K per weekday feels good, with weekends off for rest. I'm really just trying to catch up on some meters as we approach the halfway point of the 2013 Season.damselfly wrote:

Today I rowed two 10Ks; one of them in 35:45.8, a 1:47.2/500M pace, and a new PB for me.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
500 meters from 60k rowed meters this month - woot. Not bad for a novice I reckon I've lost weight off my back and I'm starting to see some definition in my calf muscles and arms. Still never seems to come off the stomach ';....;' though I guess it's always the last place for fat to come off.
I am getting really exhausted now though after 4k, so will set myself a goal of 4000 meters 3x a week instead of 6000 meters 3x a week, just until I can do more. Feel really burnt out, and my family and relatives said that when I trained with my personal trainer a few years back I did 5 minutes rowing and various other different exercises, so for me to basically do 32-36 minutes of rowing 3x a week for a month it's no wonder I'm exhausted. I think they're right, I need to take it a bit easier.

At 56 I have the same problems with fat around the middle...the only way you will truly lose it is to change your diet. The biggie is reducing carbs especially the bread/pasta type.Fat2Fit wrote:500 meters from 60k rowed meters this month - woot. I dropped 12.5 lbs in 1.5 weeks after going NO carb for about 2 weeks...now I am very low carb (occasional piece of bread, some wheat pasta etc) Was 194.5, now 182 and still dropping in week 4.
After a week you don't even crave the carbs as long as you are getting enough to eat in general. See the Dr. Oz diet on his website, it will help!
Best of luck,
Mike
ps: when you do this in combo with exercise you will be a hard body in no time!

Many of you know that I have been diagnosed with Diabetes and have managed to get it under control with diet and exercise. (The Concept 2 has been a HUGE help!) (Message me anytime for any help)
I stumbled upon a Diabetes Walk for September 30 as I was searching for Diabetes Awareness Month info (coming up in November) and decided to ask if they could use any entertainment for the walk since I thought it was so late to get involved with the Walk and Fundraising. I was enthusiastically welcomed to come down to a Rest Stop and perform for 2 hours. I was also informed that I could still Fundraiser for this worthy cause. Won't you please help jump start my late efforts to help this worthy cause?

Definitely take it gradually! You don't want to burn out. You're in this for the long haul. It's great you're seeing some positive changes already -- congratulations!! Keep up the great work.
And Mike's right -- diet is THE biggest component in weight loss. I didn't start having any success until I got honest and started counting calories and really watching the nutrition. 4+ years later I'm 30 pounds lighter and a whole lot healthier. Eating habits have changed radically. I really recommend the magazine "Clean Eating" for anyone -- good whole foods, interesting and delicious recipes.
Now off for my snack. Strawberry-peach tofu-ricotta pudding. YUM!!!
