LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
It may be little while for Elton to have meters . The gym he had access to closed and the nearest also shut up. Not a good time in Athens now. He said to tell all he is fine and can not wait to add meters again.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Great to hear that Elton is fine - that's the important thing. We'll hope for best outcomes - and a gym that has a Concept2. Thanks very much Anita (and Elton) for giving the team an update.anitah wrote:It may be little while for Elton to have meters . The gym he had access to closed and the nearest also shut up. Hi Wim, it could be from 'gripping' the handle too tight. Easily done, especially as a session wears on and you start to fatigue. If it is the cause it can lead to other issues like tendonitis in the elbow.Rumping wrote: Right now I'm awaiting the arrival of a pair of New Grip gloves in the hopes that it'll help with my tingling/numb thumb/hand. Not sure what is causing it, possibly Carpal Tunnel, according to the doctor. We'll see...
Think about it during your next session and see if you are gripping tightly. If you are simply relax your grip around the handle...
Cheers, BBB

I originally gripped the handle, which resulted in callousing and tendonitis. Through advice on these forums, I now hook the handle (thumbs on top, not touching the handle with my thumbs at all most of the time) and that problem went away (tendonitis is still there, but slowly getting better and not getting any worse). But still, an issue remains (obviously), and I'm hoping the gloves will help reduce whatever it is that's bugging me now.
Wim (attempting to get back into rowing shape).
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
hope the gloves help wim....
and good luck to all the folks doing the idita-walk....i used to do the swim....still not able to swim..
and hope the military challenge is going well for the folks doing that...
i also hope elton can find a gym with a rower soon....
like the idea of a leap year challenge....
march madness is always hard for me since i don't row on saturdays 'cause it's my long run day, hopefully i'll get to row all the other days....

I finished in 63rd place overall and 23rd place for males. Funny, my bib number was 63. There were 212 competitors. I know my time is slow, but it is a PB for me with my crutches .

Hooyah!
I think the key words here are that you DID the run, Jim! Congratulations on the PB...and that bit about finishing as number 63 and having number 63 on the bib...that's pretty cool (with an element of the supernatural thrown in ).

Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm a 73 year old who has just found the addiction of the indoor rower. My main objective is to keep my blood sugar in line (I'm type 2 diabetic), but would not object to losing a few pounds also. I also think it would be great to go to the moon. It feels like I have found the right vehicle.

Welcome to the team! I'm a new member myself but so far have found this group very fun and supportive.mrbogie wrote:Thanks for all the welcomes. Also a huge congrats to Jim for doing your run I have to agree that the key part is that you did it.
In addition... I have to share that I completed my first 1/2 marathon ever today. I'm miles away from a record breaking rower but I'm very excited about having finished one, though I'm not quite sure my body is as happy about it.

I'm convinced that the erg is good for most of what ails us (so is Marmite, but I shouldn't activate Baz while he's recouping from his ultra-event) ... and the benefits grow exponentially in deep space!mrbogie wrote:...I'm a 73 year old who has just found the addiction of the indoor rower. So, "mrbogie." Are you, perhaps, a big Humphrey Bogart fan; or a false blip on a radar display?

Whoop, whoop! It's a FIRST EVER !
Woohoo and hooyah! We love first EVERs. Congratulations, Rebecca, on knocking out that first EVER half marathon! That makes for some serious bragging rights and definitely is a hooyah moment!
It also earns you the infamous half moon distance award...Just think - you're getting ready for the Global Marathon Challenge that will start the 2013 Rowing Year on May 1st. There's always something to look forward to....you may want to invest in some memory foam for the erg seat...
