Hi All,
Saw your request for members and decided to join up. I've had my rower since march-got almost a million six on my unit so far. Need some motivational help to get better/fitter so thought the fall challenge would work. I thought I was doing well until I did my first ranked row. 2k, was 450something out of 650 something in my age group-and didn't like it :)
So, to make a long story short, I hope this helps.

Mark-
Welcome to the team! This is a great group. I am sure you will love the progress posts. They are very motivating.
I am fairly new myself, but am excited by how fast out numbers are increasing during the FTC.

Welcome aboard, Mark!! I hope you find some great motivation here and have fun to boot! We're active all year, as well -- not just during challenges!

A note to our new members, if you want to track your progress on a personal meter goal for the challenge, post it here or PM me or Izz, and it will get listed as part of the challenge meters post by the Cap'n.

This team is rockin' this challenge!! Keep up the great rows, everyone!!! Pat -- awesome numbers, my friend!! B)

Hey -- goyo -- we need some new graphics, man! Until then, here are some recycled bits to motivate us all....

Welcome Mark, this group is terrific, I'm sure you will find it very motivating, no doubt. Although it seems you are pretty self motivated since you already have 1.6 mil...lol, the sky is the limit! The group will definitely spur you on to new heights. Especially the challenge, you tend to watch the board and that gets you even more into the contest.

Good luck with the rowing and don't worry too much about speed, listen to your body, push when you can, but don't overdo it, last thing you want is a muscle sprain or worse to take you off the rower.

Good luck!

Mike

Hi All,
Thanks for the welcome. I got the rower because I had back surgery about 9 years ago (removed lowest disc-3 others herniated) and I need to stay fit to keep the pain down. I dropped 20 lbs since March, got way fitter. I can actually do sit ups now-haven't been able to in a decade,at least, due to the back thing. I do a lot of rowing on the Hudson River also-got a wine-glass wherry I built. I am a Artist-Blacksmith so I need to keep my back in one piece to do my art. I am impressed by what rowing has done for my back problem. I still want to get the speed thing-I think I'm just too competetive-don't like to be in the 30th percentile :( So, time to work harder.
Mark

Mark,

I have lower back problems as well as a general stenosis of the spine, I too have found the rower to be of tremendous value in keeping fit. One accessory I have found to be invaluable for my lower back is the shox-box you can find it at www.shoxbox.biz Take a look, it might be something that could help to minimize the compressive forces on your vertebrae.

I have no connection with this company at all, just wanted to pass on some info that might help you. Oh, and I also ordered the slides from C2 and have found them to be a help as well.

Good luck :)

You will end up there by virtue of having joined the team today, and will show up in tonight's numbers. Please consider joining out year-round affiliation as well!! Those are the other (black-text) numbers that Izzz posts daily too. That way you won't fade away when the team challenge is over... ;) You can do that from your Edit Profile page -- scroll down to the affiliation section and select "TimBukTOO" from the list.

Yes, if you like... For instance I have a goal of 100k for the challenge, and so on the stats report, it shows me at:

Challenge Goals - Day 8 of 31 (25.8%):
...
Lisa H - 36,580 of 100,000 (36.6%)

Completely optional, but for some of us it provides that extra "oomph" to get on the rower during the challenge and make some numbers. You can choose whatever goal works for you, in a multiple of 1k. Cap'n Izz has his at 300k!!
