You will do great... good thoughts for you from Alabama!!
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
IZZY,
You will do great at CRASH-B's!! Have confidence in your training and row to the plan. Stay loose and don't forget to breath (a BIG problem when I race). Oh yea, have fun also.

The ladies are back in the house! Alright, Karen! (Sisterly high-five...)
I'm going to handle the meters once more today assuming our Cap'n will be travelling home from the CRASH-Bs. 12 of 55 members (22%) logged 117,909 total meters.
Milestones achieved: Dennis hit 1.2M, Fred hit 1M, and Lisa hit 450K. Well done, us!
Approaching milestones: John is approaching 5.2M (-15,783m), Joseph is approaching 1.7M (-27,472m), Matthew is approaching 1.5M (-28,237m), Gary is approaching 1.4M (-48,385m), Karen and Glenn are approaching 600K (-16,472m and -41,288m), and Paul is inches away from 350K (-643m). (OK, so thats 25,314.96 inches, but it's still inches!)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I did a 6:42.5, and finished 17th of 67 in the 50-54s.
Part of me is very happy: 1) I'm in the best shape of at least the last 28 years of my life, and the CRASH-Bs gave me the motivation to push myself. 2) It's still a PB, even though by only .2s. 3) It was high pressure, & I felt nauseous right out of the box - which I found out today can be caused by adrenaline. (I felt nauseous last week in Cincy too, but not as early in the race.) 4) Didn't get my morning coffee for the first time in literally years - and caffeine has a .5 - 1% effect on athletic performance.
Part of me is bummed out: 1) I wanted to go Top 10 - not Top 17. 2) According to my calculations, I am more in the 6:40-6:41 range right now, so I finished 2 seconds BELOW expectations, when I was trying for a second or 2 ABOVE expectations. (BTW: Had I rowed a 6:40.1, I would've still been in 17th Place! Hot & large field this year!) 3) I didn't do 4 weeks of excrutiating "sharpening" - sprints, intervals, weight workouts to failure - to improve .2 of a second!
So, instead of putting myself on ice now for a week or 3, I will spend the next week trying to knock down PBs - 2K to 6:39.9, 1K to 3:15 (now 3:17.4, set last week), 500 to 1:33.9 (now 1:34.7), HM to 1:18:30 (now 1:19.06), and 5K to as close to 17:30 as I can get (now 18:01.2). THEN, Izzy On Ice...
(I'll revisit this post in about a week, to see whether I'm being realistic or living in La-La Land...)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Izzie,
You are 17th in the world- which is pretty darned good.
You just rubbed elbows with the best in the world.
I looked at the results and the times that the men and women are pulling- especially in the masters and veterans groups- are off- the- charts awesome.
Stay at it- stay healthy doing what you are doing- and celebrate your success.
You really have accomplished a lot.
Gary

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Great job Izzy!! I was looking at the results last night and it was a KILLER field in all divisions. The winner in my group, 40-49 HW men rowed a 6:00 flat. OUCH!
I am really looking forward to turning 50 so I don't have to race against 40 year olds.
Crank out some fast times this week (good luck with the 5 k, I would love to break 19), then let your body heal for a while.

Great Race...Brenda and I watched the Live Stream for a couple of hours....a PB is a PB and one cannot deny that. Nerves and adrenalin can be bittersweet...the more you compete the more controlled they should become.Take some time to reflect and commit...your Team is pulling for your success and appreciates your Mentoring by example.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Izz, Impressive finish and effort. You're in the best shape of your life and went top 17...fantastic accomplishment!! You now have more experience --that in itself will make you stronger!
