I had 'gone fishing' after a long day at work yesterday (no excuse), but my oars are back to help wake these sleeply waters today. We'll need more than 9 rowers to wake sleeping beauty. Go team!

The VTC, combined with a heavy snowfall that required macho stubborn me to shovel out from a foot-high blizzard myself, was a double-whammy for me.
If I add in the weight-training I renewed ( after a year away from the dumbbells ) it was a triple whammy- a confluence of stress inducements.
I've been sore all over for 2 weeks, with nagging pains that are finally receding.
It has definitely taken some time to recover.
The key really is to enjoy this training.
At 63, my body is not anywhere close to the resilience, recovery rate, growth potential or vital capacity of even 10 years ago.
I took 3 days off from the gym early this week- which I needed.
I am back at it- did a 30 min. and a 60 min row the past 2 days-- using a heart monitor too. So I know how hard my body is working to maintain the pace during the workouts.
And I am looking forward to my workouts- which was not the case 2 or 3 weeks ago.
It feels good to be back at it.
Thanks for your support and encouragement.
If it's to be, it's up to me.

I was going to take today off, but after reading the boards for the first time in a spell...what can I say.... you all inspired me to drag my butt to the "Y" and go 30 minutes today. For the first time I "raced" with the pace boat! Did 6859..not too bad for not starting out with a racing start. Had my heart rate up in the 160's for quite a spell.
Have got to get in shape as Utilikilt season is nearly here!

Okay, I wasn't so fearless - my heart rate was about 135 right before the race! Also, I felt nauseous then, and throughout the race, though I'd warmed up... Then, there was a fellow who kept up with me through almost half the race... Then, my cap fell off my head onto the erg's beam, and I got a good jolt when my rollers collided with it. I lost a couple of seconds until the coxswain of the guy next to me (who won the silver) cleared it off the beam... But yes, I did win my class "Veteran's 50+" in the Cincinnati IRC by 32.2 seconds! I did a 6:43.7 (was aiming for a 6:41), the silver medalist did a 7:15.9... (The fellow who had kept up with me at first did a "Fly & Die" and didn't place, ended up 5th or 6th.)

Congratulations, Izzzmeister!! Jolly good show!! (What's Fly & Die -- too fast too soon?)

Jamie, you look like you're in great Utilikilt shape already! My husband may have to get one of those for his birthday.

I will finish the challenge tomorrow. Not too much rowing going on here, but I'm not being sedentary. The weather is so nice, and we're enjoying the out-of-doors. Had a great hike with the husband today. He's even interested in starting some trail running with me. Yay! Since I can out-run him, the lions will be more likely to take him down than me...
