Great rowing everyone! Wow, we're at 8.1MM for the challenge!! Amazing!! We somehow slipped to 16th place though, but are less than 100k behind 15th, so if anyone has extra meters they still need to enter.... hint, hint... :)

We finished January with a quarter-million meter day!

Izzzmeister wrote:Ouch! Of course, having told everybody I was going to do a "long & steady" 28K today, I couldn't let well enough alone.
I stopped at Walgreen's on my way home, and bought a couple of quarts of Powerade and a sippee cup. I lined up a couple of cups (with straws) of half Powerade, half Crystal Light (as a diabetic, I need to limit my simple carbs, but as a person doing a marathon, I need to replace some of the glycogen and electrolytes I'm using up), and a cup of yogurt.
The 28K I do without a break, but I decided to do a marathon instead. The last time, I took five 40-second breaks (:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00 & 2:30) - this time, I took three 30-second breaks (at :50, 1:35 & 2:05) of one soup spoon of yogurt and 8 ounces of liquid. My RowPro pace boat never moved, and RowPro blew up after about 5 minutes. But I rowed on, through blisters, numb derriere, upper back twinges, and a leg cramp. I finished in 2:43:02.3, 3rd best in my age group (3 of 43), 14th of 212 among all male heavyweights. (Almost 6 1/2 minutes better than last time.)
Guess I hit 2 million with a splash, though I feel like last year's tennis shoes right now. Considering that I did 1.336M meters all of last year, I've already done 50% more than all of last season with 3 months left.
Still aiming for a Top-10 finish in the CRASH-Bs, definitely have the aerobic base part, but still need to sharpen my efficiency and speed...
I'm hurting, but I'll try to post as soon as I feel non-zombielike.
MAZAL TOV! B)
Awesome row.

Who would have expected this result after the rough waters in December?

Nice rowing everyone! :D And, a GREAT BIG SHOUTOUT  for Izzi and Lisa for keeping us UP and the info posted and flowing. We gots a lotta good boats in our group!

I think March Madness will be coming up. That's 5,000 meters per day for 25 days or more of March so don't slack off too much.

Glenn, Did you make this from scratch with all the crinkly paper and faint print and rough edges? Sweet! Of course, you now have to keep this kind of production up for all our challenges, you know. :)

Next up, Valentine's Day Challenge!!

Great rowing Team! I too wanted to give a definite tip of the hat to Izzi & Lisa for the inspiration all month long. The call to arms and daily updates were always there to kick my ass back on the erg every morning at an obscenely early hour.

...now, where is that next wall to row thru?

I didn't make it from scratch--I took a shortcut on that one.
The March Madness challenge will be tricky for me. I'll be in Florida for several days during it. I'll have to see if I can find an erg when I am down there. Concept2 needs to make one that will fit in a suitcase.:D

No slacking was noticed to begin February! A couple of people who earned their break put their tired feet up, but not a bad day overall...
A big TimbukTOO welcome to Yolanda Welch! She showed us during the VTC of what she's capable, and we're thrilled to have her join us for the entire year!
13 of our 55 upstanding members (24%) logged 196,653 meters Tuesday, motivating the clouds to part for a quick solar wink! With Yolanda's 295,709m, we added 492,362m for the day!
Milestones achieved: Yisroel reached TWO MILLION METERS, and Coach Mike hit 950K!
Approaching traffic: John a smidgen from 5MM (-5,380m), Bryan 10K from 1.9MM, Mike K approaching 1MM (-43,601m), Fred quickly approaching 900K (-6,766m), as is David (-7,266m) and Jamie (-16,152m), Raymond right near 800K (-8,906m), Casey is approaching 700K (-16,872m), Glenn is approaching 450K (-12,331m), Yolanda near 300K (-4,291m), while Paul does the same (-18,890m)!

Posted Meters:
Yolanda W – 295,709 Welcome!
Yisroel H – 57,936 Full Marathon Tue (late) + 15,741 hour Wed!
John S – 44,335 Good two rows!

Sorry so late, but I had to help an alien space ship that hit a space warp return to its proper Dimension.

Well, I am definitely NOT an upstanding TimbukTOO member today. I'm a "sitty-down" member, after an 8-mile trail run, a lot of which had nasty headwinds with 35mph gusts! Hope to be back in the erg seat tomorrow.

Welcome to Yolanda! Always great to have another gal in the boat to fend off all the testosterone. :)

I think we need to have a virtual party for when John hits 5MM!! :D

And a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our Cap'n for his 2MM!!! Woot, woot!

Hey, Jeff, don't go rowing through the wall now! If your hat is tipped NOW, it would be completely askew then!

Yeah, kicked my own butt too. Being in training for the CRASH-Bs, I had to make sure all my meters were quality meters that fit into a progressive regimen. So, I couldn't do what the top rowers call (I'm sure affectionately) "garbage meters" - meters that cause no new physical adaptations (though they may still preserve already achieved fitness levels, and toughen joints). No setting up a movie and doing 20K while watching, or rowing at a heart rate below 110 for hours, just to rack up meters. Just near exhausting workouts 5 days a week.
For example, since yesterday was an "easy day" (60:00, 15,741m, heart rate about 130), today was a "hard day" (2K WU, 30:00/8345m [PB], HR 150+, followed by a 2K cool-down and a moderate-to-hard 20:00 [5,287m] with a few sprints and HR sometimes going over 150). But with my 2K time going down more than a second a week, I can't complain...

If you took off a day, I'd bet you'd get a personal best on a 10K!
