I'm following the Pete Plan so today was a longer workout (the 4x2k, which was a toughie). Tomorrow will be a longer row as well.Izzzmeister wrote:All hands on board, and all eyes on Timbuktu! 11th Place in clear sight...
Milestones: John calmly reached 4.5 million, Mark at craft-beer-assisted 150K!
Inching up: Yisroel approaching 1.7M, Everett in reach of 700K, Dennis & David mere days from 500K, and Tyrone a whisker from 400K!
A reasonable 14 of our 54 TimbukTOOians flexed their taut arms Wednesday, 26%, adding a respectable 157,309 meters, causing the crickets to chirp counterpoint!
John S - 22,547 Hit 4.5M!!
Tyrone P - 16,148
Dennis H - 15,879
David W - 15,000 Pushed past the 10K standard!
Mark S - 11,720 Hit 150K!! Good to see longer rows!

Super thanks to the Damselfly, who wrote a program to gather the information needed to simplify posting. In a couple of days, I may be able to retire my abacus to the attic where I keep the skeletons!
Speaking of beer, for any of you who might be interested, I have just released my health and fitness book aimed at lover's of good beer and food. It's titled "Beyond The Twelve-Ounce Curl" and is available from Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats. You can click the link in my signature to learn more about it and purchase a copy if you wish.

I had my best 5000m row of the season this morning, and just 9 seconds off my best from last year! Kind of wish I had set a new PB, but for rowing at 5:30am to get it in, I don't think I could have gone much faster.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Nice, Karen! I can't push too hard in the morning either, or I get nauseous. That's why I always warm up for 5-10 minutes first (yes, I post those meters too).
Keep putting up steady meters through the month, and try again at the end of January/beginning of February, bet you get it then!
One of the things I started doing, which has helped me hit new PBs (besides more long & steady work & more sprints!), is to watch my PM. Let's say your PB was at 2:05.5. Row 5 or 10 strokes until the monitor tells you your average is 2:04.5. Then row steadily, not allowing the speed to decrease unless you're going seriously anaerobic and won't make it. If you have some juice left at the end, speed it up to 2:02 or 2:03...
Again, since you'll put up relatively steady meters throughout the month, so you'll be better conditioned then, better to wait a few weeks and try after you had a day or two off.
Have a successful, relatively stress-free move, & enjoy your new digs!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Sorry I haven't been keeping track of your stated goals for the VTC until now...
For our purposes, we are looking at this 31-day month as having 30 parts - with one alternate day, in case something comes up!
So far, we've had 6/30 days, or 20% of our allotted time gone. If you've completed more than 20% of your goal: Great, you're ahead of schedule! Less than 20: Time to climb aboard that Concept 2...
Barb B, 125K, 30%
Dennis H, 250K, 44%
Gary G, 195K, 15%
Jeff S, 125K, 35%
Joseph W, 200K, 26%
Karen R, 125K, 13%
Lisa H, 125K, 33%
Doug E, 125K, 36%
Mark S, 100K, 39%
Pam S, 45K, 26%
Yisroel H, 300K, 28%

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Ahoy, me hearties! While Cap’n Izz is on shore leave for the Sabbath, he has asked me to fill his boat shoes and get the meters out to everyone so there’s no delay. I can’t promise the personality, puns, and playfulness, but I’ll do my best.
A kind of quiet day on the TimBukToo boat today, with 7 of 54 members logging 106,255 total meters (13% oars in the water). We’re holding #12 in the affiliation standings, with those wily Canadians ahead of us by roughly 280k… But it’s really cold up there and there's probably not much else to do, so they’re probably getting a lot of meters in.
Kudos for our oarsmen (oarspeople?) Doug and Brenda! Doug rowed by 250k, and Brenda blew by 50k!! Way to row, you two!
TimBukToo’ers with their glasses trained on the horizon for their next milestones: John is approaching 4.6M (needs 47,163 meters), Gary is closing in on 1.1M (19,063 shy), Jamie is sneaking up on 700K (36,237 needed), and Glenn is approaching 200K (20,412 to go).
Today's Posted Meters:
John S - 40,401 Yow!!
Gary G - 15,072 Great row!
Joseph W - 12,255
Glenn Y - 12,000 Wow! Almost the last two rows combined!
Doug E - 11,711
Jamie B - 9,000 7k, 8k, 9k... Where will he stop?!?
Brenda H - 5,816 Another good strong row! (And another horsewoman! Yay!)
Keep up the great work everyone!

VTC Standings
In the Virtual Team Challenge, we are in a solid 13th place (again with those wily Canadians taunting us from 12th!). John S. is within spitting distance of 150k, and Dennis and Tyrone are also above 100k for the challenge. Izz, Joel, Adam, Joseph, Douglas, Jeff, Doug, Kevin, Glenn, and David are all above 50k! Way to row, guys!
Keep those meters coming, TimBukTWO!
And this may be a little unorthodox, but hey, it's my keyboard. I just want to give a shout out to Darlene Brennan, from the Age Without Limits team, who at age 67 is leading the ENTIRE FIELD of the challenge with 450,330 meters. Wow. THAT is some awesome rowing. That will get me off my duff (well, and back onto my duff again, but on the erg seat this time), and do some rowing tomorrow. Who's with me?!?!
Besides, it’s the NFL playoffs, and my husband will be glued to the tube, leaving me free to row unmolested. Go Colts!

Good afternoon Team,
after completing my 7th 14.5K Erg in 7 days, I am afraid to inform you that that will be my lions share of the JVC contribution done and dusted. I am moving house next week, and starting a new job the week after and so I will try and log as many metres as I can but it shall be understandably difficult.
Keep rowing though Team, and best of luck to each and every one of you!
