Have been off the erg for the most part of the last few months due to a shoulder problem...hopefully now I will be on track for another million meters :)

Thought I'd mention that I purchased one of the "shox-box" units and my report on it is extremely good. It does indeed absorb much lower back compression especially noticeable when erging at a fast pace. I highly recommend it!

Mike, glad you are back on the erg and the shoulder is doing better. What is a "shox-box" unit?

Jim, the shox-box is a small box like unit that the rear leg of the erg sits in. It actually suspends the rear leg so that it can move a bit up and down/back to front/side to side. These aren't huge movements just enough to absorb some of the compression forces that your spine is absorbing right now.

So the theory is that its closer movement to actual on water rowing. I find this to be true and have much less stress in my lower back now. They even sell brackets to connect it to a slide, which I purchased as well.

Check it out at www.shoxbox.biz

Sounds interesting, will give it a try. Although once I stopped pulling on the straps so much on the recovery, I had less problems with my back. Learned to erg strapless, which was necessary as my wome size 7.5 feet wouldn't stay in the mens size 10 on the club shell!

Sorry for your loss Jim - - I don't think we ever get over the loss of our parents. Today is my mother's birthdate and I lost her 3 years ago in 2007 - so kind of feeling the same way.
