Happy 4th of July to all and Happy Independence day to those in the USA. I hope you have a wonderful, safe , and pleasant day today. Though she doesn't read this forum, Happy 48th birthday to my little sister Joyce. Poor kid had to endure growing up with a sports addicted older brother who had to drag her to so many sporting events.

TimbukTOO had another slow day yesterday with 48732 meters rowed. Not a bad total , but definately not TimbukTOOian.
Remember the challenge today, but please remember it is very optional. Family comes first and if you are cooking out,etc. etc. please take the time to be with family and friends.

Stu---------------5000
Alison------------3500
Ashlee-----------750

Row for your good health, and please be safe.

I went caving for the first time on Saturday and had a blast!!! Spent Sunday recovering from muscle fatigue. It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how fit I think I am; I still get my butt kicked anytime I "work out" in a different activity.

@sandi,

It's not lack of fitness, it's just different muscle groups! Just think of it as good crosstraining.

If only I crosstrained like that 2 or 3 times a week. Then I would really be in good shape

So, here's a question, y'all (sorry, I'm in the South, although from CA to begin with. Rubs off with time). What do YOU like to do, with regards to crosstraining or other activites to complement erging/or the rest of your life? I really enjoy my yoga classes, which seem to be very complementary to urging with respect to flexibility and using different muscle groups. I did notice that the urging actually helped with my yoga with core strength. I wish I could get to class more than once a week though, and don't have any kind of at home practice. I recently started on-the-water rowing, which is HARD because I'm struggling with handling the oar (I think I need to chill out a bit), but it's great to get out and row outdoors on the water, as I work constanstly indoors in low light.

I love to walk, especially Nordic Walk with poles or my crutches. Works different muscles than rowing. I think that since erging is a non impact exercise, we need to do something like walking, running,tennis, caving, weight training, etc. I have read and know that as we age ,especially women, we need to do low impact exercises to strengthen our bones. Athletes who bike or erg exclusively still can develop osteoporisis, so they add more weight bearing exercises to their cross training. Hope that helps, please anyone out there , add some more info. A former music teacher has little useful knowledge in this field.
