Mike,

How cool that you remember Bob! I kept in close touch with his wife for several years following Bob's death, but now we're back to just annual Christmas greetings again. With her kids and family, she has a good support system.

Watched the Broncos last night. It has been a long time since I've enjoyed them on Monday Night Football; it has seemed more like a curse than a blessing so many times. Last night was a good game and a great win.

Don't know how I feel about the Phillies. They knocked my Rockies out! When I grew up in California, the Dodgers were so different. I remember Sandy Koufax and broadcaster, Vin Scully (who looked a little like my father). That was back in the olden days...

Linda, I grew up, literally, with the NY Mets...lived 2 blocks from Shea Stadium...there will never be ANYTHING like the 69 Mets or 69/70 Jets.

Crap, I AM getting old!

I was at the Philly game last year for the final game of the World Series (both days if you remember it was suspended because of rain...) that was a lot of fun, but I hate to admit it, I am STILL a die hard Met Fan!

Double crap, now I'm old AND stupid :)

Mike

Mike, do you ever feel that in the cycle of life you're on the down curve?

Lately, I feel more like a teenager (with my actions & vocab) and visualize diapers looming on the horizon! I hope the rowing buys me a little more time of life as a sane (but stupid), old person.

I LOVE watching baseball in person! How fortunate you were last year & growing up so close to Shea. I'll bet people could actually afford to go to the games at that time without it breaking their budgets! What did it cost to see a game when you were growing up?

About 10 years ago when we took the whole family down to the Rockies, we'd bring our own snacks & drinks just so we could afford to go. It shouldn't be that hard/costly for families to attend a game (and they wonder why the stands aren't sold out).

Linda, you asked me how much it cost to go to a game back "in the day"...boy, that DOES bring back memories...and if memory serves, it took exactly 12 milk carton cut-out coupons to gain entrance to the cheap seats! And that's what we did, no joke.

Try doing THAT today

I still remember sneaking down to the field level seats, someone would distract the guard and the rest of us would scurry down to see the players up close...I will never forget seeing Tom Seaver throwing...power power power!

Now, back to the erg!

Mike,

The Mets?????? In 69, I was brought up from the minors to the Cubs in August. We were still 8 games up on the Mets. Of course by the end of the season, we were 10 games back. Mr. Durocher called me every bad name in the book and some not yet written down. Seemed to think I was bad luck. When the Cubbies finally do win, it has been a while (1908) , I may forgive the Mets.

Hey there Jim, you played professional ball? That's amazin' (sorry, I couldn't resist, all I can hear in my head when I think of the 69 Mets is the flashback video they used to show of Casey Stengle saying Amazin, amazin, amazin Mets!)

I am truly impressed that you played with the Cubs...Durocher must have been been quite the task master...I still remember him watching the Mets saying "Nice guys...but, they'll finish last" Which eventually got shortened to the more famous quote: "nice guys finish last". At least that's the way I remember it! He was a piece of work to watch in action, and you had a front row seat! What position player were you and how long were you in the biggies? Sorry to be nosey but I am sure I must have seen you play...com'on give me a hint!
