I returned home from Mad City, Wisconsin too late last night to row, and that puts me a little in the hole for March madness or the start of the WRC. Oh well. But I did bring home a lonely, unwanted, oldie but goodie, used big guy solo canoe from my weekend wanderings. I had a great time. Come On Spring!

Sounds like they are busy guys! I doubt that there's any penalty for not rowing any or many meters...yet being signed up for the challenge. What do they want to do? I say we go with whatever their choice is!

Great to hear that we are rowing colleagues with a NYFD member! Enjoy the St Patty's day parade - and thanks for the meter (and public service) contribution.

Is it appropriate, as a newbie :shock: , to ask how have so many of you been successful in getting so many meters? Do you all just sit down and push “Just Row”? Do you follow some training plan? Created your own?

For a long time, I have wanted to purchase a rower and finally did last month.

It's always appropriate to reach out to the team for info! We welcome it! We've discussed many things in these pages (now at 200 pages in one year!) - and training is certainly one of them. I hope that many team members will take a few minutes to share what drives them to be meter millionaires.

We use the distance to the moon as something we can all contribute towards. Our captain, Kristine S, started the team forum pages about the time of the JVC last year. We're a chatty team with a lot of input from many people. We started providing the daily stats about this time last year. The feedback from the team members is that we all find ourselves doing about twice what we did as individual rowers when we participate as part of the team. There seems to be an unspoken accountability to contribute what we can! After that, the meters just start piling up!

There are several training plans that are on the concept2 website, and the UK Concept2 website has some good training plans as well. Some people just row for time (my guess is that there are quite a few who row for either the 30 minute or the 60 minute). I row for distance - and time - and use the distance award program to reinforce my rowing discipline. Some will state they have a goal of rowing to 6 MM in a season - or rowing 1 MM during a challenge. Whatever distance you choose to row, we'll cheer you on when you hit the milestones. I just picked 100K as an increment to call a milestone when we started this because it seemed like a big deal. And it is!

We clearly like to "win" at some of the challenges by coming in in the top ten - but it's less about beating the other teams and more about having just a good time giving each other support during the distance drive or the challenge. The winning achieved is seemingly a consequence of our outrageousness - and this crazy goal to get to the moon.

What has made the difference for me is the motivation that the team atmosphere helps provide - there is encouragement towards a common goal, recognition and support for individual goals, and there is acknowledgment that what you've accomplished is a big deal (we even celebrate other teams' accomplishments).

Hi Chriss

I'm only new to this group and purchased my rower last year to aid an injury recovery, so not sure it is my place to jump in here. However....over the past few months I have followed a 2,000m training program as it offers a good intensity.

The programs outlined in the Concept Rowing training area (Bespoke programs) are a good reference point for rowers of all experience levels. They are well put together and, importantly, are progressive. For this challenge I am simply adding in some extra distance before and after my usual ‘training’ workout and usually in the form of intervals…for example 3x10 minute intervals or something similar.

As with many things, get comfortable with the equipment and experiment with what works best for you.

I must say, the Global Challenge and the virtual teams are also great for motivation….and let me say Van Halen must have been God’s music gift to Erg rowers; well it gets me through the metres anyway!
