DUCKS & FRIENDS TEAM ROOM-JVTC09

Post by Surf Scoter » January 4th, 2009, 2:04 pm

Hello All Ducks & Friends Together participating in the January Challenge. This is a place that we can keep an ongoing dialog and share our struggles and successes. As of this writing we are doing great and holding onto 10th place in the standings. Kathryn is leading in meters with 58,777 and Jan is right up there with 57,600--Way to Go!! Those numbers are changing fast and it's great to see how our meters are adding up. We have many who have rowed over 30,000 and 40,000 in just the first few days! That is an inspiration to me to get on the erg and row some more. Please reply with your comments and encouragement. The team fever is catching and seems to make those meters go by more easily. Keep up the good work!! denise aka Surf Scoter

Denise, thanks for putting this up. I'm going to check out the team standing shortly. I've rowed more per day on this challenge than I think I did for the Holiday Challenge. Today I didn't have as many meters but I got them the hard way... I rowed 20 minutes with Susan who just kept staying a few meters ahead of me... and she had done an hour row this morning. I think Susan has turned into a rowing beast.... Maybe I can catch her during the week when she has to work long hours.

Then after rowing with Susan, I rowed online with Alison who is training for the Crash Bs.... She was doing 5x750m and I decided after the first one, I would do 1,3, and 5. It was a distance that made me row really fast (not nearly as fast as Alison and Danielle) but it get me coughing and I coughed for an hour after. I'm sure I reached a new depth in my lungs.

I'm very happy that we got Kathryn on our team and good to see some familiar names and glad to see the new people too. Remember for the DAFT team you can recruit your kids, your husband, your siblings all to get on the erg and give us some meters.

Hi all - I just joined the team, to be able to give you my meters for the challenge.

I'm new to indoor rowing, but thought this would help keep me motivated/(addicted?)

Hi Ally and welcome to Ducks & Friends Together. I sent you a PM as you need to do one more step to participate in this challenge. New this year not only do you need to sign onto a team, but you need to select that you are participating in the January Challenge--just below where you signed up for the team. Your meters will help us all pull together. This is a great way to motivate you to keep rowing. You are also welcome to join the ongoing women's team--Ducks in A Row--that you can select from under the Profiles tab after clicking update. It's great to have you!! Let us know how you are doing here in the team room. denise

Hi Val, welcome again to the team and the forum. I know I would not be rowing as much this month without the team challenge. It's great to feel part of a group. There are lots of experienced rowers on the forum and many interesting topics to explore. In the meantime, keep on rowing. You are doing great! denise

Hi to All, It is great to see more people continuing to sign up for this challenge. It looks like we are adding up the meters and holding our position in the standings--great motivation! Let's hear how it's going for you?? I put in a couple of big days for me and the last two days I've cut back to 8,000/day. Tomorrow I'm ready for a day off, but I'll be back stronger. Keep up the good rowing. denise aka Surf Scoter

Hi folks,

Just 50,00 for me to go to get my 4th million. I've been off the machine fora long time; good thing C2 doesn't delete our lifetime totals after a year or I would have to start again!

Good to see your rowing again, Grams. I can remember those days before your surgery... when my goal on ranking rows was to see if I could be as fast as you. Glad to have you join the January challenge and getting to 4 million meters is super... Be sure to let us know when you've got it so we can give you a round of applause.

Go Ducks

Hi All, We dropped back to 10th place today. We have some terrific rowers on the team. Jan K. is leading us with 115,480 meters! Kathryn has 101,630 and Sue D. with 90,000 are our strongest members so far. There are many in the 50,000, 60,000 and 70,000 ranges. Every meter helps pull us all forward, so we can all feel good about our progress. Keep up the good work!! denise

Welcome to the team, Alison. We are happy to have you rowing with us. We have dropped down to 11th place, but it wouldn't take much to move back up. We are still open to new members!! I am rowing about double what I usually do and it all because I am rowing with all of you!! Thanks! for keeping me motivated. denise

This team challenge has been a great boon to me. I started with the erg in December with the idea of losing weight. Then some other internet virtual friends got the bright idea of a January challenge of committing to 30 minutes of exercise per day, any type -- walking, running, weight lifting, etc. I committed to them that I would do 30 minutes per day of erging and then found this challenge to help my motivation.

btw, I've lost 4 lbs since December 23.

Hi Val, It's great to hear that this Challenge is helping you meet your goals. The camaraderie here at the C2 teams and forum is terrific. There is no lack of good encouragement and advice. If you aren't already on a "year round" team, you might want to consider that. Great to hear from you. denise
