back in the boat

Post by acrewer » May 27th, 2008, 1:46 am

Sorry to have disappeared for a few days, my tummy was not feeling well. My doc changed a medication and it did not work! Returned to the old med schedule and all is well.

Congrats on the tandem 1/2 marathons.

And all the other milestones. I'm working my way back onto the 5K meter board, will take me 8-10 days, if all goes well.

But it felt good to row today, and that's what matters. It's good to be back.

Bad news--I slipped, fell, and broke my humerus. Looks like 6 weeks in a cast.

Oh no Mary! So sorry you ended up with a broken wing! Must have been a nasty fall. Most fall injuries are to the wrist or the radius or ulna because folks tend to want to brake their fall with an available hand. (Personal observation on friends and myself from the late March bad fall season caused by thawing and re-freezing cycles in late winter in Duluth,) But to break the upper arm, wow! Hope they we able to set it without resorting to pinning. Speedy recovery to you and if that cast covers your elbow, work hard on the P.T. when the time comes.

Gina - Glad your feeling better and were able to diagnose a change in meds as the cause of your trouble!

Jan - Interesting link to free spirits message board. What I liked: categorizing conversations into forums; having separate topic threads within the forums. What I didn't like: seemed to lack chronological order in the forums. The new stuff seemed to be buried.

Is there any application to the Luna-Tic home page? I like things the way they are but sometimes wish there were an Advice Archive forum for the good advice burried with our many pages of chatter. Darryl

Marypat - did you slip dancing?

Hope recovery is complete and relatively painfree.

Forum

Post by Kona2 » May 27th, 2008, 3:28 pm

Free Spirits does not have their forum on the concept2 site - so they do a few things differently! And it costs money to host your own forum - so they look for donations.

I think we could put a separate topic up that contains Advice Archive - we've had several worthy items that could be included. All that would have to done on a "keeper" would be to copy and paste it into a new topic.

Their meter sheet is a bit more complicated - but I like the google earth map showing where everyone is located. I'm trying that out to see what happens.

I think it's good to check out options!

I am happy to report that I stayed on my feet while dancing! I was on my way through the lobby with the stone floor when my feet went out from under me.
Thanks for the comfort and support everyone. I love the Luna-tics DL--sounds very important.

Statistical probability

Post by Kona2 » May 27th, 2008, 11:59 pm

Image

The statistical probability that two people in our random group of rowing Luna-Tics share the same birthday is 70 percent. Our 2008 rowing team consisted of 59 team members. There was a 99% probability that two people shared the same birthday. Just some stat trivia (aka the birthday problem) for you today. Nope - not my birthday.

Jan - Thanks for putting together the "where in the world" map. Are you accepting a small photograph of a highlight of where we live for the interactive data box?

And I guess I'm being the independent one again today. Loved the little canoe paddler emoticon! And it appears this little guy is holding his own against 3 rowers in a tug of war. My analysis: Either the rowers are handicapping themselves by facing backwards OR it's a power vs speed thing with power not letting the rowers get up to efficient speed.... Incredible the graphics you can find out in cyberspace. Darryl
