We are still accepting new members and are happy to have anyone join even up to the last minute (Jan 15th). We are an open team so you can join without asking for permission. (But if you do email me, please give me your email (if you haven't set your settings to allow emails) so I can respond - there is no replying to emails sent through the concept2 system!)

To the person (Lisa) who emailed me (I hope you read this forum) - Yes you are welcome to join!!! Thank you for motivating me during this period of grant deadline. :)

The EWE ROW Cheering Squad (and Team)

Instructions on how to join:

Establish an Online Logbook if you haven't already (it's FREE!).
To do so:

Visit the Online Logbook home page.
Click Register under New Users and follow the directions.

Join a team:

In your online logbook, click Teams at the top of the page.
In the Join a Team section, click Choose A Team and select a team from the list.

If you do not see a team listed, that team has not signed up for the current challenge.
Click Select Team.

If the team has open membership, you will be added to the team roster automatically. (we DO!!)

Indicate that you are actively participating in the current challenge:

In your online logbook, click Teams at the top of the page.
In the Team Challenge section, click the link provided to indicate your participation.

If you change your mind, you can leave the challenge using the Leave this Challenge link provided in the same location. You have until approximately two weeks into the current challenge to make changes; after that time, team membership and participation cannot change for the remainder of the challenge.
Enter all of your meters into your online logbook.
If you do not have access to a computer but want to participate as a team member, contact your Team Captain and ask if they would enter your meters for you. Due to the popularity of these challenges, we strongly encourage you to create your own online logbook and log your own meters to keep the workload manageable for the Team Captains. Team members without online logbooks do not need to indicate that they are participating in the challenge (step 4 above), as they are automatically considered part of the current challenge.

Loved the shape up with Shaun video! I'm rowing as part of a 21 day new year fitness challenge.
I recommend the book, "Younger Next Year" by Chris Crowley & Dr. Harry Lodge as well as "Younger Next Year for Women". Check them out.

Hi Chuck!

Glad to be on the same team as you! I've only been rowing three weeks, but it's been so much fun!

What's the 21 day fitness challenge you are doing?

Lisa ;-)

Welcome Lisa,

I decided to try this fitness challenge to kick off the new year http://personalexcellence.co/challenges ... l-jan2012/. I had been following the "Younger Next Year" lifestyle pretty rigorously since 2007. You can read more about that on my blog http://icoolspark.blogspot.com/2007/02/ ... rules.html but slipped into complacency, not being as disciplined about my diet, slacked off in the intensity and duration of my work-outs which caused me to gain some weight. (not as bad as the fat sheep in shape up with Shaun).

I've been doing challenges with Ewe Row for a couple of years. I never met any of the other members, but we support each other. I started rowning in 2008, and participated in the CrashB's in Boston that year, which is where I got a bargain on my C2. I've given up on the competetive rowing and now I just do it for fitness. I'm up to 2.3 million lifetime meters. I bike in the summer when the weather is nice and alternate between the rower, treadmill and elliptical walker in the colder months. I live in RI, work in Strategy & Marketing for an engineering software company, am happily married, with 3 adult children. I'm also preparing for a mission trip in April to work with handicapped Children at Montego Bay, Jamaica with a group of high school students from my church.

Great to have you on the team!
Chuck

Thanks for the explanation, Chuck! Sounds like a great challenge! I'll check out the book you mentioned, too.

I've never rowed on the water before. Where I live, it's too windy most of the time to even think about doing such a thing! (The Columbia River Gorge on the Oregon/Washington border...best known for WIND surfing!) I have been married for 23 years and Scott and I have two awesome kids that are in high school. I teach 7th/8th grades at a very small private Christian school. I purchased a Concept2 because I have bad knees and the doctor told me to not do stairs or hills any more (which is difficult, since my whole town is build into the side of a hill!) Anyway, I found that rowing does not bother my knees, so I'm hoping to row off about 100 pounds in the coming year(s?).

Wishing you well with your goals for the year! Happy rowing!

Lisa ;-)

Hi Lisa,

I do a little windsurfing myself, but nothing like what you see out there at the Columbia Gorge. That's hard core.

Check out this success story on weight loss & rowing on the YNY community.
http://www.youngernextyear.com/stories/index.php?id=7

I was really active in their forums a few years ago, and Deb from Iowa, the subject of that link got me interested in competitive rowing, which led me to do the CrashB's. She & her husband were doing it for weight loss & it had a huge impact. Deb eventually got the company company she works for to sponsor Chris Crowley, one of the YNY authors to give a seminar on fitness to all of their employees. I had been rowing at my gym on an old C2 (PM1) up until the day of the competition I had never seen a PM3! Chris is a big fan of the Concept2, but he also rows on the water. I went out for crew my freshman year in college and lasted about 2 weeks. I gave it up after falling asleep in my books after every practice, and decided my dad would not be happy if I flunked out becasue I was spending all my energy on crew. I have a small row boat as a tender for my larger boat, so I do get to row on the water a little, but nothing serious. Here I am a couple of summers ago in Newport RI.

It's great to learn more about my fellow teammates! Will write more on the weekend.

The sheep have been working hard this week. First they had to fix my PM3 monitor. (note to self... always check whether the monitor is working before rowing.)

Now they want to congratulate Lisa for surpassing 50,000 meters!!!

It's a Ewe Row Team tradition that the sheep offer a sheep massage every 50,000 meters. :D

Sheep challenge of the day... How many meters can you row while watching an episode of Shaun the sheep?

The sheep reminded me that not everyone owns the Series one and two Shaun DVDs ;) and suggested I link to another episode on youtube for their challenge.

Thanks for the massage! Also, thanks for the Shaun the Sheep clips! They're great! I'd never heard of Shaun before!

I'm hoping to hit 100,000 lifetime meters tomorrow (Saturday). I know that's not very many, but I've only been at this for a month! Such fun!!

Hope you made it to 100,000 meters Lisa! (If you want to affiliate with the Ewe Row team the sheep can track your progress. (Affiliation is different than joining teams for challenges and is done on one's profile page.)

Go Chuck!!!!
Long past 50K!!!

A sheep massage for you: http://www.sheepcafe.de/cards/animiert/massagesheep.swf

I also started rowing in 2008 after a mini challenge by the health facility/club where I was doing my water therapy. Ended up buying a C2 rower and rowed a lot while writing my dissertation. Unfortunately rowing took a big hit once starting residency. So I'm still working on my 2nd million meters. In terms of fitness and weight loss - I find that sleep makes a big difference for me. It was easiest to maintain a healthy weight when I was getting a full night's rest every night! It's something that people often don't mention in the diet/exercise equation but I think both are affected by lack of sleep - one wants to eat more (sleep deprivation seems to disrupt appetite regulation hormones like ghrelin and leptin) and exercise less (besides fatigue, muscles don't recover as well) when very tired! Something to keep in mind.

Nice job Chuck and Miryam & the Ewe Row! Cheering Squad!!! We're starting to rack up the meters!

Yes, I've now hit 105,000 lifetime meters! I now have my sights on making a million meters by the end of August (at the latest!) When I first got my C2, I couldn't see how in the world I could row very much and I was worried about the March Madness challenge of rowing 5k a day. I think I may actually be in shape enough to do that by then! I'm hoping to row at least 150,000 meters for the Virtual Team Challenge.

What are the benefits of affiliating?

Row on!!

Lisa
