Introduction

Post by rickfm » June 10th, 2006, 1:30 pm

Hell all,
Other than not getting any slower as I get older not sure why I got invited to join this illustrious group. I am 50, 6'5" 215lbs Currently rowing with Community Rowing on the Charles in Boston thanks to an invite from the "canoeist". Hope to get some racing in this year but flooding has cancelled two so far. I cycle and XC ski when not rowing. Erged the past two winters with the Union Boat Club under the tutelage of Tom Bohrer (tbfit.com). Hoping that my 2K scores will reflect what my longer distance scores indicate I should be able to do for the next indoor rowing season.

Rick and I are fairly evenly matched. We are both 50 years old. I am up to 218 pounds versus his 225 and I am only 6'4" versus his 6'5", but we pull close to the same erg times. (Too close for comfort!) He has kept me honest during the last two Newbuyport IRC races by turning in times around 6:35.

I recruited Rick to row at Community Rowing because I thought it might be fun to row in a pair some day. The trouble was that both of us rowed port our entire rowing careers. My rowing career was a bit shorter, from August last year to the Head of the Charles, so the coach switched me to starboard.

Both of us spend most of our on water time in 4s and 8s. But, one of these days, we will have to see if we can drive a pair in a reasonably straight line.

Cheers,

Paul
