Alden 18- Help!

No, ergs don't yet float, but some of us do, and here's where you get to discuss that other form of rowing.

Alden 18- Help!

Post by still33 » July 25th, 2008, 2:04 pm

Hello All! The Alden Ocean scull in my previous post is not working out. I have a line on an Alden 18 at a good price. I want something I can use on our local, somewhat rocky river and the option for 2 rowers is a nice feature. My club is 40 miles away and I plan to continue to learn sweep rowing there. Do you think the Alden would be a good choice for my local use? I am afraid a racing scull (which I am not ready for) would be too fragile for the river, and difficult to lauch without a usable pier.

Also, does anyone know best way to transport an 18- I have a pickup I could put a rack on but don't know if that would work when I row alone as I suspect I will be most of the time. Is an Alden 18 durable enough to lay on a trailer or would I need to buy or modify a trailer for it? Is it easy enough to launch alone?

All help much appreciated ASAP as I have a small window in which to buy the boat. Thanks!
