Open Water Boats for sale

The Essex Rowing Club in Methuen Massachusetts is undergoing reorganization. It looks like they are selling everything wall to wall including boats. See the ad in row2k.com. I went there yesterday and put a deposit down on a 2016 Peinert Zephyr and they have several more to sell as well as larger flat water boats and also oars. The Zephyr is a great recreational and open water boat and I will be selling my Echo Islander, the Bluefish. The new boat is blue also so I won't have to change the name.

PaulG, do you know of anyone looking to sell a good condition pre-owned Peinert Zephyr?

Peintert Zephyrs seem to be hard to come by. Try:
row2k.com
https://www.adirondackrowing.com/. They have used boats.
https://www.craftsbury.com/. They sell their old boats sometimes.
https://www.rocknrow.org/. Same as above
Paul Milde, the owner of Peintert, may know of some Zephyrs for sale. DId you check with him about capacity of that boat?
All of these are northeast loctions which is not convenient for you. A local rowing club may use Zephyrs as learn to row boats and they may sell their older boats.
Good luck.

PaulG, thank you. I've visited back and forth with Mr. Milde, really good guy. He believes a Zephyr will work for a guy my height and size. Mr. Milde's observations match my experience - pre-owned Zephyr's aren't easy to find. Craftsbury has a number of non-Zephyr Peintert's for sale, but they are hanging onto their one Zephyr. I've been tracking Adirondack but haven't seen any Zephyr's listed there yet. Had not heard of rocknrow until now - thank you very much for pointing me in that direction.
There are only 2 small rowing clubs in my region. Neither have any Zephyrs. When I find one, I'm presuming it will come from one of the coastal areas.

Yes, thanks. I have been following that FB group along with Row2k and Adirondack, as well as scanning Craigslist nationwide. A number of the manufacturers on their websites list pre-owned boats for sale. Something will eventually turn up.

Thank you again for your advice and help. Earlier this month I picked up a pre-owned Zephyr as my first shell and am having a blast with it. If all goes as planned, next summer I'll be back on this forum asking for advice and recommendations on a racing shell that will accommodate someone my size.

Excellent! Have fun.
You'll probably always want that Zephyr even if you progress to a racing shell. When my crew got a tour of the Resolute factory years ago the president told us that when he took over the company he had a Zephyr and thought that as president he should own a Resolute racing shell instead and put his Zephyr up for sale. Luckily for him it wasn't sold before he determined that for rough water days he'd still want the Zephyr. So, he owns two boats.
