Looks great, Roy. I won't quibble about technical imperfections because I think that you look brilliant for a beginner. I am particularly impressed by your control whilst sliding slowly into frontstops - very smooth.Rocket Roy wrote:I thought I'd put these 2 short videos on here for those that don't visit the uk forum. Not brilliant but something to watch. I'm having a lesson with Tim Male.
Thanks Dave. The boat is a KIRS. The one that Mahe did the WR in, so I've no excuses.......Snail Space wrote:Looks great, Roy. Nice looking boat; I can't make out what it is though.
Cheers,
Dave.
That's impressive progress. Your balance looks good despite your inexperience. As for imperfections - a certain Mr Drysdale still has those [not that I'd say it to his face mind you!]. Your emphasis on technique is spot on the money: you see plenty of really powerful blokes that spend a lot of effort slowing the boat down. Thhosee skinny shells are a lot less forgiving than the ergos, aren't they. Judging by what you are doiing it looks as if you've got an excellent coach. IIt's humbling to see how much time those guys are prepared to invest in helpiing people to learn to row.Rocket Roy wrote:Thanks Dave. The boat is a KIRS. My stroke is a work in progress. I am determined to get it right before trying to speed it up, every day get's a bit better though. As for technical imperfection's..........I'm sure they are all there. It's now 3 month's OTW 4 Oct-4 Nov...scullers head is on 3rd Dec -------gulp! I'd better get back out there and practice.
Dave you flatter me, but thanks and yes i am going to aim for the top. Drysdale actually came to Tideway Scullers and joined so that he could learn to scull properly, he was in the 4+ that won Henley in 2008. Tim Male who coached him said he arrived with lots of rough edges. God knows what he makes of my stroke thenSnail Space wrote:That's impressive progress. I'm sure that you've thought about the World Masters Championships: could be another World No 1 to add to your lengthy collection of world bests.
Cheers,
Dave.
You could ask him to do a double with you ... as long as he promised not to sslow you down too much!Rocket Roy wrote:Drysdale actually came to Tideway Scullers and joined so that he could learn to scull properly

Can't, I'm doing Henley with Mike VB next year.Snail Space wrote:You could ask him to do a double with you ... as long as he promised not to sslow you down too much!Rocket Roy wrote:Drysdale actually came to Tideway Scullers and joined so that he could learn to scull properly

This was a joke actually. I'm sure Mike will row with someone far faster than I.Rocket Roy wrote:Can't, I'm doing Henley with Mike VB next year.Snail Space wrote:You could ask him to do a double with you ... as long as he promised not to sslow you down too much!Rocket Roy wrote:Drysdale actually came to Tideway Scullers and joined so that he could learn to scull properly

Also, why would a 59yo kid want to row with a geezer of 60?Rocket Roy wrote:

What on earth is that gadget in the lower right corner?Byron Drachman wrote:An easy 10K this morning. It was near freezing in the morning but is warming up this afternoon. I prefer the cool, quiet mornings even if I have to wear pogies. There was fog this morning:
It's a detachable stabiliser, which stops the ergo from falling off the bank and into the water.Bob S. wrote:What on earth is that gadget in the lower right corner?
And - I would hope - with floats and pogies as well.Byron Drachman wrote:The last 15K was done with squared blades.
