My new Kaschper Raven shows up tomorrow. Rather than paint the hull Kaschper uses a clear coat over the fiber cloth. Looks very stealth like. I'm think of naming her "Carbon Dating".
If you don't try, you will never know how bad you suck.

We've been considering a Carl Douglas Custom, potentially named "Leaky Log", to be inlaid in wood by the father of course. That is if he can be convinced. Heck, I may use "This End Up", now that I think of it.
Erg on,

Boat names
I started recreational rowing and erging in my late 40's for my health, and row ECHO rowing shells for exercise and long distance on open water. My first ECHO was teal and is named for a dragonfly found in my state: Nannothemis bella (Elfin Skimmer). My second ECHO is LIVESTRONG yellow and named Tikvah, the Hebrew word for Hope. My next boat will be an ECHO ACE, but I have not picked a name for it yet.

Judging by your taste for beautifully hand crafted timber boats I bet your house is full of antique tables and chairs. I too would appreciate a Carl Douglas Custom timber boat. I would spend hours looking at it but probably could never take it out on the water. I would hang it from the ceiling in our house next to the wall with the handcrafted scull oars that presently adorn it.
Clear gelkote over black carbon fiber boats also look really hot but unfortunately would meltdown in our harsh summers.

Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

Not the name of a rowing shell, but. . .
While I was out on the MV Canadian Ranger setting up for a show for the Canada Dry Festival of Fire, I saw a cabin cruiser go by with the name Decision Made. Pasted on the side of the boat was a "For Sale" sign.

We have an old 8 named The Sixty Bucks. Back when it was bought, everyone chipped in $60 to buy it.
We have an atrocious boat named The Hobart, that we affectionately call the Ho. It's always amusing to hear the coxswain say, hands on the Ho, roll the Ho up and over heads, roll the Ho down to waist, and etc... xD

Haha...nice. Before the tornado destroyed our old vespoli fleet we had a four we had comically named "RJ" which was short for Riding Jenny. Our acadamic associate dean for athletics had a daughter named Jennifer. The AD was a real ass to our team and always made travel and expenses more difficult than it had to be so we appropriately named our new rhino V4 the "RJ" because every time we got in the boat we would metaphorically be "riding" her daughter (who was 24 just to clear the age thing up lol)...
Ironically her daughter had moved out of the area just after the tornado hit...and we never "rode" Jenny again lol...

My high school crew has quite a nice modern fleet of mainly Dirigo and Kaschper 4+s and 8+s. It's a serious organization, so many of the boats are named after respected individuals associated with the school as well as donors, as is the norm. A lot of them are named after nuns.
However, at the Western Reserve Rowing Association, where rowing is a big joke on a bad river, there's little to be serious about. Cleveland State University has a boat called the "Cleveland Steamer." Other boats I've seen include "Hot Sauce," named after some ghetto restaurant in the area, and "Sweet J," named after a local coach's favorite emphatic phrase of "SWEET JESUS!" whenever something goes wrong. There are some real gems in that boathouse, but I haven't been there in months so nothing else comes to mind.
