Can't straighten my knees?

No, ergs don't yet float, but some of us do, and here's where you get to discuss that other form of rowing.

Can't straighten my knees?

Post by rowing92 » August 14th, 2019, 7:09 pm

I'm always struggled being able to fully straighten my legs at the end of a stroke, but I'm only recently realising how much power I could be missing out on.

I have no physical problem straightening my knees, my issue is that in most boats (all except one) there is not enough space for my legs to get down. The flat bit which the runners sit on extends way too far for me and the backs of my legs prevent my knees from going down and so my heels come up, meaning I am only driving with my heels down for a very short time in the middle of the stroke.

An easy way to solve this would be to move by feet further forwards but I have short legs for my height and this means my handles clash at backstops. If anyone has any ideas or knows whether this actually is a problem with me and not the boat then I would really appreciate it!

Shifting the footplate astern by more than a certain amount, you'll need to move the riggers or just the gates in the same direction so that the entire work moves astern. Maybe footplate height can be adjusted too?
