Sun Glasses Needed

No, ergs don't yet float, but some of us do, and here's where you get to discuss that other form of rowing.

Sun Glasses Needed

Post by mcasolin » November 8th, 2008, 9:34 pm

Hey everyone,

As I am finding myself in the "pitiful" situation of rowing in southern California I am in desperate need of a new pair of sports sun glasses. As I am new to the sport:

Can anybody recommend a certain brand/model or let me know where best to look for sports sun glasses? Preferably, I could use them for other sports (running, etc) as well, but rowing is my priority!
Also, is it advisable to buy the glasses second hand/ online (without trying them on beforehand)? If so, I would be very interested, in order to save some money there!

Thanks to all!!

If you are a sculler or row in coxless boats these are cheap and useful for seeing behind you with simply a small turn of the head. They're not sturdy so if you like them you would want an extra pair. On the other hand, I'm careful with glasses and carry them in sandwich bag inside a hard case when I'm not wearing them so I've used the same pair just about every day for a couple of years and they look like new. I use a Croakie with them so they don't slip down.

If you're like me - cheap - then check out the wide range of safety glasses. I've found a style I like and have multiple pairs with different lenses and frame colors. Each cost about $7. The styling is up to date (I've even had other cyclists ask about them and you know how style concious roadies are!). They have the UV protection and are lightweight. If you drop them overboard, which I've done, no big loss.

DON'T SPEND TO MUCH MONEY

as mentioned above.. you will flip.. or bend over on the dock to undo an oar lock... turn your head to fast and your sun glasses will go for a swim....

i found a decent pair of polarized sunglasses at wal-mart for ten dollars.
I'd say anything the is cheap and polarized will do the trick.
