Official Visits
If a coach invites you to his college for an "official visit", what does it mean? Does it mean that he is seriously considering you for recruitment? Or do the words "official visit" just sound more important than they actually are?

Yes, it means they are interested in you. It also means they will pay everything for the athlete - travel; hotel and food for a max of 48 hours. They will not pay for travel for a parent and they cannot give you any gifts like T-shirts either.
Be aware that the athlete can only receive a total of 5 official visits and only one for any one school. Of course, you can visit as often as you like on your own dime.
Typically, the athlete will also stay with a student athlete in their dorm too so that they can experience campus life.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate - we just came back from an official visit last week-end.
