I'm curious about how well the Concept2 rowers work for tall people.

I'm 6'5" particularly concerned about whether or not the rail (or what ever you call the thing that the seat rides on) is long enough. The last thing that I want to do is to invest in something like this and then find out that the seat smacks into the back when I fully extend. I've poked around the forums, but haven't seen anything about this.

So... If you're tall I'd like to hear from you.

Sir Steve Redgrave is 6' 5¼" so I don't think you'll have a problem.

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm assuming that Sir Steve Redgrave uses a Concept2?

I guess another way of asking my original question (and one which anyone, regardless of height, should be able to answer) would be this...

How far is it from the foot supports to the front edge of the seat when the seat is pushed all the back on the rail (as far as it can go)?

I would think that comparing this number to your inseam should give a reasonably good idea of whether or not it will fit. The problem with just looking at height is that some people have a longer torso, whereas others have longer legs, even if they are the same height.

I've heard that some hit the back, but am not sure of their height or inseam, maybe 36" for the latter.

C2 does make a longer railing, if that is the case.

I'm 6'4" but have very long legs (37" inseam). I don't have a problem on the C2. I had heard that the winner of the senior master men at Crash B (5:57) was around 6'8" and did have extra long railings put on.

6'5" to 6'6" here - no problem with C2 length

I am 6"6" and have about 3-4 inches of rail left. My son rows at U. of Wisconsin and is 6' 7", and has 37" inseam. Not sure how much extra rail he has but he uses the standard unit without a problem.

If you don't hit the back "bumper" on the rail with full leg extension you are OK. If you do, before you plunk down the money on the available long rail extension, you can move the rear roller axle to the alternate hole (at least you can on the model C seat). That will give you another inch of travel. My doubles partner is 6'7" and that's what we did for him. (and he thought he was going to get out of erging in the off season!)

I'm only 5'11, but my inseam's 36 (it's a girl thing) and I've got plenty of rail left.

6'5" should normally not be a problem unless you have very long legs for that body. C2 make extra long rails but I have only heard that in use for much taller people.

6'5" is a great height for rowing and erging though!

FYI: I called C2 and asked. The official word is that the standard configuration handles people with an inseam up to 36 inches. They also offer an extended rail (costs $50 extra, no change in shipping) that adds five inches. Thanks to all for your answers... Now it's time to order.

Thanks for the tip! I'm 6'9" with a 38" inseam. I have to be sure to set my rear on the back half of the seat or I feel a bump at the end of every drive (model D). Rowing shoeless also helps.

i am 6'10" and i have similar troubles. i fit in most midweight and heavyweight boats, i just have to push the footstretcher all the way forward and the slides all the way back, and then i fit fine. the biggest trouble for me is wing riggers, because when i layback at the end of the stroke, and then my back hits them. other than that i have no troubles
