shin pain
shin pain
I am very new to the rowing machine but am totally loving the full body workout except for the shin pain. Is this because of my knees falling open to allow room for my gut? I am also noticing today rubbing on my heels from my shoes. Is it easier to go shoeless and without the straps?

I always row barefoot and love it. You can smooth the edges of the heel stops with emery paper or sand paper.
You're probably pulling on the straps with your toes, which is working the muscles in the front of your skins. It will help to row without straps for awhile. Then when you have your balance, you can benefit to use them again.

Hello,
I am new to rowing; got my new D in the middle of January. As I watched the video from C2 with the Oarsome Foursome, they rowed barefoot, so of course I thought I would, too. Bad choice, I got huge blisters that really, really hurt. After several days of trying to figure something out, I rigged up the following: I put on my shoes and strap in my feet with my shoes on, but then slip out my feet and place my feet on top of the shoes and straps. In this way, my heel is rubbing on the inside of my shoe which is nice and soft compared to the hard plastic. This may seen strange, but it has let me go for my full 40 minutes without stopping because of the heel pain.
Good luck and keep rowing!
