Hello everyone,
Is it normal for a relatively new Model D rower to have a drag factor of around 80 with the lever on 1, and around 130 on 5?
I got a Model D last November and have rowed about 600k on it. I just vacuumed the flywheel (although it wasn't that dirty) and measured the drag factor at different settings. According to the Concept2 website, a new machine usually has a DF of around 100 on 1. My machine has a pretty low DF in comparison.
Of course this is not a big deal, I'm just trying to understand what's going on. Could this low DF be related to the fact that I row in a smallish room where there's only about 1m clearance on the sides of the flywheel?

Mine behaves that way, but I attribute to being at a higher altitude than normal. But the effect is similar - less air moved, so less drag on the flywheel.

Is the monitor configured for the right model?
Main menu --> More options --> Utilities --> LCD Contrast
Once on the LCD Contrast menu press [change units] three times, then press [change display] three times and the hidden configuration menu will appear.
Check that's set for model D.

A low end of 80 is not out of the expected range of a new machine, depending on numerous factors. Any blocking of air flow on the inlet or outlet side will lower the range, as will elevated temperatures, lower barometric pressure (higher elevation) and any existing air movement from wind or another erg in close proximity.
