blister on left heel

Post by rwhdmd » February 2nd, 2008, 9:51 pm

After millions of meters, and after an average of 200,000 m a month for the last three months, I am destroying my left, and only my left heel. I wear the anti-blister socks, and new footwear. What am i now doing different, and why only my left heel? This has always been an issue, but my new found endurance of 10, 15, and 20k at a time are destroying the sense of accomplishment with an ugly blood stain. Any thoughts? :?:

Cotton socks hold a lot of heat, moisture, and will cause the skin to peel right off - if that's the kind of socks you are wearing.

I always row barefoot, and never have any problems with blisters.

You can smooth off any sharp places and nicely round the edges of the heel stops with emery paper or sandpaper. Soaking your feet in ice water will help the blisters to heal.

when you don't have a blister or its totally flat and has no holes in it...
spray on some of that newskin liquid bandage stuff... try putting on a few coats of it. it helped me when i had a blister that was healing.

I have to wear shoes because I have to use custom arch supports.

The plastic insert in the heels of the shoes gave me really bad blisters. I had to perform surgery on the shoes and remove the support and sew them up again. I also use gel-filled giant corn plaster bandaids for long sessions. They are pricey but you can reuse them.

I also get blisters on my heels and have been putting a small strip of Duct Tape on my heels before I row - it has stopped the blisters.
