tractor seat

I was at a fitness center today that had 4 concept II's with retrofitted padded seats with 1 inch risers on tne back of the seat. Anybody know where to get this type of seat?

C2 used to make these. Give them a call and see if they have any more.

If I recall correctly they did a lot of research and came up with that design, but people ended up not liking them. I hated them.

wELL, i'M 58... A SKINNY 175 LBS AT 6 FEET.... NOT SURE IF I QUALIFY. I RECENTLY HAD SEVERE PIRIFORMIS SYNDROME PAIN.... THE PADDED SEAT SEEMS TO BE HELPFUL FOR THAT. I DON'T HAVE MUCH PADDING ON MY FANNY ANYWAY.

Then I'd suggest trying some other padding options before even thinking about the tractor seat- that high back on it prevents you from laying back much at the catch. Options that have worked for me for marathon rows:
* one or two of the C2 seat pads
* a folded towel
* bubble wrap (great stuff, comes in lots of different size bubbles and can be easily disposed of)
A quick web search for seat padding would bring up a lot of foam pad options. C2JonW

A cheap solution to try: fold a "furry" bath mat in half (furry side out) with a foot square layer or two of bubble wrap in the fold--I prefer the large cell variety. Position this with the folded side facing the handle. This works well for me, is easily tried, and permits a wide choice of colors.

how many marathons have you done? how long does a marathon take you???

I do maybe one marathon a year and my best recent time was 2:49. C2JonW

I've rowed a couple of times on tractor seats. There's a competitor model rower that has them and it was the only rower available at the venue where I could erg over vacation. It chaffed my backside a bit raw and I was barely on it for 30 minutes. I've erged marathons on the regular seat with no padding and didn't get any bummed bums.
