Well. Perhaps I exagerate. Water works fine as long as there are no black spots on the rail. And by the way--I assume that everyone is cleaning the rollers as well as the rail. I firmly press my sponge against the forward facing rollers while moving the seat to the aft end of the rail. I repeat the procedure while pressing the sponge against the aft rollers and moving the seat forward. If you don't do that, crud on a roller will soon contaminate the rail and any foreign bodies attached to a roller could cause some annoying bumps when sliding up and down the rail.
