Hey It's Jeremy and I was reading the weight lost post and saw that you created a team so I have added myself as the fifth member and we are now in 60th position. Keep up the rowing, I know I will.

PS. I have lost 49 pounds since the 15th of april by eating healthy, playing racquetball three times a week, basketball 2 times a week and rowing everyday, except for two days when I had a concusion from Bball and wasn't able to workout. Well I had best go, I need to row before bed. Keep up the rowing and lets keep climbing in the standings.

QUOTE(copywriter @ May 19 2005, 05:48 PM)

Four of us on, as of now, and we've moved up to 89th position!

Thanks, Kathi! I've been lurking in the Women's Forum and the people on your team sound like a wonderful group. I hope we can get the same kind of activity and support for Row Pain, Row Gain

QUOTE(KathiS @ May 18 2005, 10:19 PM)

Good Luck with your new team! A weight loss team is a great idea! I know from experience how valuable it is to have a lot of support while you are trying to shed unwanted pounds!

Also, being on a team will help keep you motivated to keep rowing! I know that being on the Ducks has certainly kept me rowing and rowing and rowing...

Hi, Katboi,

Welcome! Good luck in achieving your goals.

I can't take the credit for starting the team--that was Specialt's idea. I just started this topic. Three cheers for Specialt!

QUOTE(katbois @ May 19 2005, 01:06 PM)

Hi! I've been jonesing to join a team and kick-start the weight loss thing, so consider me a bona-fide member of ROW PAIN, ROW GAIN! Great name! Thanks to the clever people who thought that one up.

A little about myself - I have been involved with running for the past 10+ years and have run many 5Ks, 10Ks, 1/2 marathons and completed 15 marathons (PR 3:10 @ Marine Corps in '98). Anyway, I wanted to cross-train so started biking about a year ago and rowing just this past March. I love the erg, it's really a zen sort of thing. I just plug in the iPod shuffle and zone out for an hour! And I don't have to worry about being hit by a car!

As far as nutrition, I try to eat healthy and can usually maintain my weight with a mid to high carb regimen (plus daily exercise). Presently, I weigh 185 (5' 11"), and need to lose 15 lbs. My hope is this group will provide the much needed challenge to accomplish that goal.

Good luck to all and thanks to NurseBobbi for starting this group!

Welcome to Copywriter and Jeremy! I can't help but notice that everyone on the team has many more meters than I do. That certainly is incentive!

I had a visit with my doctor today and was started on daily medication for mild high blood pressure. All the more reason for me to keep rowing and taking the pounds and fat off. I came home from the doctor's office and rowed 30 minutes.

I'm rounding up on 3 million meters... and really want to get 4 million by the end of April 06

Jim

Hi, Jim,

Yep, I know from past experience what trying to do too much too fast can do. I've actually had my rower since the summer of 2001. Looking back over my log, I see many false starts. I'd get too sore or I'd get sick and quit. Then I bought a cover for the rower and didn't get on it at all in 2003 or 2004. I uncovered it in January and my PM1 batteries had died. I decided to get a PM3. Turned out I needed a new monitor cable too. I got it ready and....didn't row. In April, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, which was apparently triggered by a very nasty sinus infection. I also got my diagnoses of moderate degenerative arthritis in my right hip and mild hypertension. All that news provided the kick in the rear I needed to start exercising and watching what I eat.

This time I had no choice but to start slow because I started rowing when I was sick. I'm now on the mend and I actually feel better than I did before I got sick. My plan is to keep rowing 5-6 times per week and to try for a minimum of 30 minutes each time (unless I'm rowing prior to work and only have time for 20 minutes). I want to keep adding time on my longer days; I'm up to 45 minutes now for my long days. I did over 28Km in 6 days last week! It took me almost 4 years to get to 50,000 meters. I'd like to hit a million by the end of the year.

Count me in. I just signed up. I've been out of town for about a week so I'm a little late and behind in my rowing

I got the rower back in February and have lost 15 lbs. since then. I need to lose about 20 more. In he past I used a Nordic Track skier but 5 years ago I stepped in a hole and really did a number on my ankle. Surgery a year later and my ability to use the skier became extremely limited and 35 lbs. piled on over those years. My brother recommended the rower to me.

I've got to admit I like rowing more than I ever did skiing.

I do about 50-55K meters a week. Usually 2 60 minute, 2 10K's and 2 30 minute rows. Long duration rows several times a week is getting the pounds off for me.

I hit plateaus at times. After losing 5 lbs. real quick I was stuck at the same weight for 2 weeks. I was at another before going on vacation. But I just keep on, keeping on.

My next row (tonight!) will put me over a half million.

Kevin

Apologies, team.

I have to do a bit of travelling over the next week or so, so won't get near a C2 and won't be able to add more K's until June.

But, looking on the bright side, at least airline food nowadays is close to a calorie-free zone!

Welcome Fornelli & all other new members of RPRG! The acrostic of our team name looks like an expletive!

I am nearing a quarter of a mil after starting rowing in March. I only have access to a Model D at my gym and am considering purchasing one for home, but thought I should do a million meters at the gym to see if I can really do it. Any words of advice? I'm sure it's more convenient to row at home, but I could see how missing a day and looking at the rower could produce great guilt.

One other thing - does anyone row with a heart rate monitor? I did get the logcard and antenna for the PM3 from Concept2 and use it at the gym. I try to concentrate on keeping my heart rate at 80-85% with 200m intervals upwards to 90%. I've used it when spinning and running, but am just learning with HR and rowing.

Anyway, keep up the good work everyone!

Take care,

Mark

Hi, Everyone,

Welcome Jason Fornelli!

Ken (Copywriter), you're forgiven for taking a break. June isn't that far away.

Mark, I row both at the gym and at home, but mostly at home. I'm at the gym for weight training three times a week, so when I'm there, I sometimes row on their Model C. It's a little bit annoying because it's got the old handle and it has a PM2 so I can't use my log card. OTOH, it's nice because it's newer and easier than my Model B. (I've upgraded it with the new Model D handle, a PM3, and the flexfoot retrofit. I've also replaced the rollers and hardware on my seat and I clean my chain regularly, something the gym doesn't do apparently.)

I prefer rowing at home in my nice, cool rec room with the music playing and with the dogs hanging around. Guilt about not rowing isn't an issue--taking a day off is. Right now I've rowed 8 days in a row, though I did one very easy 20 minute session one day because I had to leave for work at 6am. I highly recommend having your own erg at home. It's convenient and it's usually better maintained.

I have a HR monitor, but I hate chest straps, so it's a wrist model. I have to stop rowing for about 10 seconds to check my HR, so I do it occasionally throughout a row if I'm not going for a ranked piece. My HR really goes up in a hurry because I've been so sedentary for a long time. I'd like to stay in aerobic training range, but it's hard for me to keep it down there and feel like I'm working. I know my aerobic fitness is improving, though. My husband and I went to downtown DC last night for our anniversary, and we rode the Metro. I started walking up the escalator and didn't get winded! I was puffing a little by the third escalator (which wasn't working), but Iwas much improved over my last ride downtown.

Hi Team RPRG (Sounds like some sort of rocket propelled grenade)

My name is Duncan Smith, and it would be a honour and great motivation to be part of your Team.

I'm a Kiwi (a New Zealander).

I'm a veterinarian by training but have recently taken over my family farm, so I guess I'm a full-time farmer now. I've battled with my weight ever since injuring my knee 10 years ago. I'm 6' 2 and 120kg (264 lbs). I would love to be under 100kg.

Like many, I have a love/hate relationship with carbs. I never look down my nose at smokers because I think I feel the same way about french fries as they do cigarettes.

I have a fantastic wife Kate and two girls Xanthe 3 + 1/2 and Harriet who is 1 next month.

Good luck to all.

Duncan

PS. A kiwi is the most amazing bird in the world, not a fruit!
