Full LogCard Bug may cause loss of data!

A bug has been discovered in the PM3 that corrupts the saved data on the Logcard if you exceed 98% of the card's capacity. To avoid this problem we suggest you begin using a new LogCard when the LogCard you are using indicates 95% full. The LogCard "% full" is displayed each time you insert or remove your LogCard from the PM3 or whenever you power up the PM3 with the card already inserted.

A fix for this problem will be available after January 1, 2005. Can logcards be cleared of stored workouts, for example after downloading all of the data to a PC or do the cards have to be disposed of once they get to 98%?

Thanks in advance,
Jim
I cleared my card and started again at the begining of this season so the answer is Yes. I think I also changed the file name that I downloaded to so that the previous data was not overwritten

I have just cleared my log card and it is now showing 1% full (it was 34% full prior to this exercise). I deleted all the workouts using the C2 Rowing Log 1.6 (available Here) - just found out this is now obsolete so get 1.7!! I then deleted user(s), reinstated user(s) and hey presto clear logcard to amass all those meters during the holiday challenge to make room for the christmas pud!!

I'm not about to delete the log to prove a point. I just believe what CSR at C2 told me. Besides, I can afford to buy a new card once or twice a year.

So how much storgae capacity does one log card have then?

The fewer the splits per workout, the more workouts you can store on a card. Variable Intervals take up the most space, so if you routinely use variable intervals for "Long" (30 interval) workouts, this will chew through memory faster. Of course the more workouts you do per day, the faster you use it up.

Concept2's belief is that the average user will get at least a man-year worth of data. I'm sure that there are some folks that have multiple users or always do long variable intervals and will get less than a year.

Concept2 will consider adding some utilities to the LogCard Transfer Utility and/or to the PM3 itself to do things like erase the card and pack deleted workouts. Right now you can use the Concept2 Logbook (installed as a free package as part of RowPro 1.7's installation) to delete workouts on the card and "Pack" the card to free up space.

-- Scott
I've used my log card for about seven months. About 350 "workouts", but that really means about 350 "sets" of, for example, 4 x 4 min rows, or 8 x 2 min rows. Total meters is just short of 1 million (next month!!!!!), and the logcard is about 85% full.
A new logcard is about $8 from C2. At two per year, that's $16 bucks. Save the data and the log card. Buy a couple new ones. Then you can check back every six months or so forever, and see your improvement. That'll be worth the $8 per card. Just keep rowing. Bert

One of the features I like in having my own C2 is that there is always a odometer, etc, giving me total use data.

Am I correct in my assumption that once you filled the logcard, that the PM3 will start fresh from zero with cumulative data?

Concept2 is in the process of internally testing a new release. As soon as it has been more fully tested internally, it will be released for beta testing.

Also, I should note, that a new version of the LogCard Transfer Utility (which will be renamed the LogCard Utility) is due to be released soon. This version will pack the card, freeing space from deleted users and deleted workouts.

-- Scott
For anyone with a very full LogCard, please download the new Beta software that has been recently posted. This version has been extensively tested with full LogCards and is believed to correct all full-LogCard problems.

In addition, customers should note that:
- In this Beta release, if you delete all users on a card, the card data will be reset fully so that all space is freed up.
- In the current LogCard Utility (ver 2.5.3), there is a feature to "pack" your LogCard. This is the recommended method of freeing up space on your card after you have deleted workouts and/or users on your card.
