We have a C-model erg. But my wife has quit rowing because its too loud. Has anybody out there found a solution to reducing the noise? Can we wrap the fan case in foam or will that destroy the resistance?

Now that we have kids, we can't row at night after they go to bed, or in the morning before they wake up. Ergo, we don't get a chance to work out in peace.

Help.

Yes you can wrap the fan cage with foam or with anything else.

I had taped a 5" wide piece of rubber from a truck tire innertube around the top 1/2 of the fan cage but have since removed it.

It does lower the drag factor slightly, but doesn't affect the accuracy of the reading.
Call C2 and ask them about the "Silencer Kit" for the C. It's priced reasonably and makes quite a difference.

You get a new axle with damped cog, new chain, and new polyurethane pulleys, takes about 1 hour to install.
