Does anyone know why my seat is "chirping" at me when I row? It started last week and the seat doesn't make the chirping sound the whole time I row. The seat doesn't shake or feel loose and the rail is clean. I couldn't see anything on the rollers underneath the seat either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
deppe4

This is usually the cause of chirping seat rollers. Essentially, the rail is squeaky clean.

I usually recommend a few drops of the chain oil on the rail and then allow the rollers to spread it out.
Keep the rail clean with a dry rag and only use Windex on the stubborn spots when needed.

You may need to add a little more oil once in a while.

Shawn
I prefer using mineral oil.

It is inexpensive, and saves the chain oil for the chain.

If you are indoors, oil is probably fine... a thin coat.

If your erg is in the garage or other dirty area, the oil will collect dust and dirt and make the problem worse: worn parts.

I wonder if aerosol furniture polish (Glade) will work? It works in other applications where dirt is bad, but clean-sqeak is undesired as well. Mmmmm....lemony fresh scent

I put a sheet over it that reaches from the seat and goes over the flywheel. This leaves nearly all the railing exposed.

I wipe it everytime I use it with a soft clothe. When it chirps I windex, if it chirps the next time I use it (typically next evening) then I put a dab of oil on it.

This combo seems to keep the chirping under control.

-deppe4
