Good evening,

I've been rowing for two days now on my new C2 Model D.

Today I noticed that there was a creaking/groaning sound whenever the chain changed direction--at the beginning and end of the stroke.

Then I noticed if I pulled the chain very slowly, it creaks the whole way in and out. I can not only hear it, but feel it.

So I gave the chain a good oiling--hadn't done that yet, since the instructions said not to before the first row--but it really hasn't helped.

Is it normal to have so much noise at super slow speeds and at the point of reversal of direction????

Thanks for your suggestions.
Nick

i had a similar problem 2 months ago, when I bought my new Model D. I noticed the creaking sound after using it for about 2 days. It also seemed to make the noise if I wasnt pulling on the oar, but just rotated it or pulled it from side to side a little. It seemed to be coming out of the pulley housing. I called concept 2 and they told me to check the linkage where the oar handle connected to the chain and to remove the cover from the bottom and look to see if anything looked worn.

Anyway, it went away the same day I called them, without me having to do anything. I think the new ones just need to wear in a bit. So, I never even got to do any of the checks Concept 2 suggested. I think there is a wear-in period, maybe 5K - 10K.

SF
