is it just me, or are there no videogames that involve rowing? it seems like the perfect sport to make a videogame about. you could be a crew manager/coach and u would have to build the fastest 8/4/2/1 based on your pool of rowers. (perhaps you could even race 6 or 3) Choose how to train them whether you want to starve them into lightweights or have them hitting the weights everyday. what race strategies to use against other teams when you race your crews online. then you’d also have to manage your cash to buy new equipment and recruit better rowers, build better train facilities, and so on. you could even have it so it hooked up to your PM3 and depending on how you did on certain work outs/ how much you erg you could improve individual members of the team, so each work out you could improve a different rower. (that would be great team building for high school/college teams) that would make racing online a h*** of a lot easier, you could just load your guy and go instead of having to stretch and get ready real fast at strange times of the day, the little guy on the screen races your saved 2k so it slows down where you slow down and speeds up when you speed up. and you could combine rowers scores in an 8 race. that would be entertaining, until Harvard’s V1 decided to try it out. maybe I am too obsessed with rowing, but i would play that game a lot. it would give me another reason to erg. that might be a prize winning idea for someone working on PM3 software for C2.
-Bored Rower

I'm new here... as I just bought my C2 about 3 weeks ago... woohoo!! but I used to row on and off (more off) when I was on travel for work.. When I was England, there was a rower (similar to the C2) in the hotel gym that was hooked to a monitor. The monitor had a pace boat that you would race against.. what made it interesting is that the occassionally a helicopter would fly over and drop add'l rowers into the pace boat, so you'd have to row harder to keep pace... then a shark would swim by and eat a couple of rowers, allowing you to drop off your pace. This was quite awhile ago (10 yrs or so), so I'm sure the graphics werent all that great.. but it really kept the rowing interesting...

I'd love to see something similar for the C2.

-SF

SF, you should give the suggestion to Pete at DigitalRowing.com He will need to add some entertainment to his next version of RowPro. Until then, you should give RowPro a go. It is the only vertual reality game in the world where you end up with a HR of 185 bpm!

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I went to the digital rowing website and all I could find were the generic email addresses. I couldnt figure out a good place to post the suggestion in their forums either..

thanks,

SF

Just post a note on one of the digitalrowing.com forums. Pete reads the messages daily and should give you a response in a day or two. Don't worry about taking up space on that forum. It only gets two or three posts a day at most.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Would be moderately straightforward to write such a game. If I get bored I might start writing an internet based one.

It more comes down to what features you'd want to see in it.

Mel

As long as it tied into the pace data output from the PM3. that would be pretty cool..

you can use just about anything to speed up and slow down the pace boat. but they should be fun / comical events (e.g. the helicopter adding rowers or or shark eating rowers).

similar ideas:

1. a big wave washes a couple of guys out of the pace boat,
2. one of the rowers raises a sail to make the boat go faster
3. a dolphin swims by and one of the rowers lassos it and it starts pulling the boat faster, ..
4. a rowers oars break and the pace boat slows down...
5. a jetski or waverunner pulls up and another rower jumps onto the boat or hands a new set of oars to the guy who's oar broke

the ideas and variations are endless..

Mel,

If you are thinking of writing a game, why not do it in conjunction with RowPro? Contact Pete and see what he says. It would be a great addition.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
