I've had my Concept2 model D for about a month now and am starting to have problems with the hardware.

1. Log card not loading. It often takes me reinserting the log card several times before it logs me into the computer. In addition I've had the log card fail in the middle of a work out so my times dont get recorded.

2. Static. I keep getting shocked by the rower while using it.

3. Rough rolling seat. There seems to be some black gunk building up on the seat rollers that no amount of cleaning will remove. This can cause a rough ride at times. In addition the track seems to get this black stuff embedded into it so I must clean it every day. This could be related to the static.

Thats about it. Overall I'm happy but the log card problem is getting to be an issue.

I wonder if that's part of the reason for your logcard difficulties... Give C2 a call (1-800-245-5676) and ask them for help on the logcard issues, I've always found them extremely helpful, definitely first-class customer service!

Your workouts may not have been completely lost, as the PM3 monitor on the Model D will try to log the workout to the internal memory if it can't write to the logcard. Go to Logcard Menu, Logcard Utilities, Move Workout and see if it lists any workouts. You can move them to the logcard if so.

As for the rough rolling seat, I've found that "Greased Lightning" does a great job of cleaning off the black gunk from track and rollers, and makes it roll like new. Works pretty well for other cleaning tasks around the house, too.

Bill

Static electricity can certainly be a problem for many electronic devices. Wiping generating areas down with anti-stat solution (or spray), downey, or "Fantastic" can help. Static can cause issues with the PM3 as well, especially if the card is charged when you insert it. Please check the "hardware version" of your PM3, if it's between 400 and 431, it might be a bit more sensitive than others (contact C2 for a replacement).

[QUOTE]
For the static problem....

Perhaps you could attach a grounding strap between the C2 frame and a metallic grounded surface close by (computer for example).

I can well imagine a high potential difference between the frame and the pm3 causing issues.
I keep a few drops of mineral oil on each side of the railing, and monitor this daily.

Any little bits of dirt or hair that get caught are wiped off immediately with a napkin.

I wipe off the railing completely after repetition sessions and apply a few more drops of oil on each side.

This keeps the rollers and railing in top shape.

Also make sure the rollers are not too tight. When the seat is off, spin the rollers with your fingers. They should spin very easily. If not, then loosen the connection to the point where they do. Also I keep the rollers in the slot that gives the seat the most room on the railing. It should slide very easily back and forth. If not, then move the rollers to the holes that are farther away from the rail.

Interesting, another static issue ?

Static

Even though I live in Canada, and winter dryness and static can be a problem, (reletive humidity can drop to 30% or less), I have never seen this issue.

Maybe because I use a model C with a retro fit PM3, the cage around the fan is metal and not plastic. Perhaps this allows more static to leak. With the plastic cage, air moving across it at some velocity, more electrons stripped, more static charge is built up over the course of a row.

Just a thought....
