I am going to upgrade my model C PM2 to a PM3 and use RowPro. I have several computers on our home network - G4 tower, Powerbook, ibook, an older Dell laptop and my work IBM laptop.

I know the logcard and RowPro will not interface with a mac, but wondered if anyone was using it under the Virtual PC interface. My alternative is the older Dell laptop, but I may have graphics issues with RowPro.

Thanks!

Aaron

It is kinda weak on specifications so I am not expecting much but it is the only computer close to the C2 right now. It has a NeoMagic 2160 chipset which may not have the performance needed. Hopefully, I will be able to test it soon.

Steve

As a prospective C2 purchaser (currently a club user) it just so happens I had e-mail dialogue today with C2 customer service regarding their monitor/software alienation of Mac users. They said they have thought about it and are investigating it.

We need to keep the pressure on...

G5 i-Mac, PowerBook, e-Mac
I recieved this today from C2: Thanks Scott ... Someone on the UK forum is developing a mac app to interface with the PM, and had a beta up and running for the PM2+ if you have one of those. He was looking at adding PM3 support, but might have been waiting for the code from C2. He posted here once or twice too if you search back.

I think there is almost no doubt that your old dell laptop will be better than VPC for rowpro. currently, VPC emulates the video card anyway (so you don't get the benefit of your mac's graphics card). VPC is also expensive. Rowpro's demands are not that high; I have a 466 celeron for example. I upgraded my video card, but it ran in 2d (very slow for the interface, but that didn't matter when you are rowing) with the built in onboard 4 meg VRAM. Any chance your Dell can support a card for a second monitor or can the graphics chip there be upgraded?

If you can get a hold of XP pro or win 2000, the better emulation possibility is to run remote desktop on your mac (free from microsoft), connect the pc to the C2, network the 2 computers, and then control the PC from your mac. I haven't done this, and haven't seen anyone else report on trying. If I had Pro, I would test it it out.

A cheap PC is the answer at the moment.

I'm running my HP PC (Windows XP Home, haven't installed Stupidity Pile 2, sorry Service Pack 2) from my Mac using Chicken of the VNC on the Mac and RealVNC on the PC. Both can be gotten for free from <a href='

I'm a Mac user with an older C2 model C. I sometimes think about selling my rower on eBay and springing for a model D. But then I remember that I won't be able to take advantage of rowpro or even the log card. (No, I don't plan to buy a PC -- I love rowing, but, hey, there's a limit. ) If Scott & his colleagues make PM3 Mac-friendly, I will definitely reconsider, and I bet other people will, too.

Cheers,
DGG

But I also think you probably want a rowing dedicated computer anyway, so why waste your mac hooking up to your rower. I bet you know somebody who upgraded their PC recently. Their old computer is junk to them, but perfect for you. I asked around and picked up 3. The trick to using an old junk PC for your rower is getting XP for free (but I am not going to comment on that).

Thanks for the very good suggestion, Michael.

XB will run on an old junker, will it? (That's how ignorant I am about Windows.) As for getting it for free, well, miracles never cease, I always say.

DGG
