I noticed something about my Model D handle recently. The nut holding the U-bolt on one side was solidly against the handle. The nut on the other side was not. It wasn't touching the plastic. Both nuts were fully tightened. That seemed strange so I removed the handle and checked the U-bolt. I found that the threads on one side were 1/16 inch shorter than the other side. I thought that the thread lengths on both sides of a U-bolt are always the same, but apparently they may not be. Not all U-bolts are created equal. I was using a handle that was only being supported on one side.

Something like this is harder to determine when using the wooden handle. But if the threads on one side extend a bit farther out than the other one, then it's possible that both thread lengths aren't the same. You could always take off the handle and check the U-bolt for yourself.

The fix for the Model D handle is very simple. Just turn back the nut that's flush against the handle until the other one touches the plastic as well. Or you could do as I did and get another U-bolt from C2. That one worked out fine.

I don't know what if any effect it has on the handle to row with only one side of the bolt supporting it. Maybe it's perfectly okay and the handle doesn't need any more support than that. But since it was designed to be attached evenly to the U-bolt on both sides, I think that it might be a good idea to check and see if it actually is. You might have an unequal U-bolt just as I did.
