Adding More Realism To The Erg

I have the erg to simulate the rowing motion and just updated my computer so that I can use RowPro and race over the internet. I have dual floor fans and a C-Breeze to give me that feeling of air rushing past a moving boat. How else can the erging experience be improved? Add some water. I know, everybody says "ergs don't float", but when I went down in my basement three days ago, I saw my erg seemingly floating in a beautiful glassy lake. It appears that my erg was talking to my plumbing and convinced a pressure relief valve on the hot water tank to jam open. I decided that the lake was just too much reality and have been pumping and drying out. Now the musty, dank odor gives me great memories of my canoeing days. Oh, how I loved to put on those smelly wet sneakers before workouts!

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Paul-

My wife and I once came home from vacation and found that the hot water heater had broken and flooded the basement. What a mess!!!

We later put in a sump pump to avoid future disasters.

Neil

Paul,
You should have put your erg on the slides and have a row to become the first person to create a bow wave with an erg. It would also increase the drag factor without the nead to adjust the fan.

Taking matters a step further: as your house has river frontage with the headwaters of the Charles, while you were draining the water out of the basement into the river you could have held an erg race and called it "Head of the Charles Regatta". Now that would have been more true to the word than the mob downstream from you.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis

Paul I know your where a big fanatic of rowing but flooding your basement for a reality row it is the best. You should get a award for that very impressive. I like it. I hope you got some picture to show.

The wife said that the erg and computer animation could stay, but the water and the associated musty smell had to go. I finally got the mess cleaned up. Now I can concentrate on my new toy - Pm3 combined with Rowpro and the internet.

I am going to take the children on real water this weekend. We will be camping on a lake in New Hampshire. I just bought a double kayak to go with my double canoe. That way, none of the children are allowed to be "cargo" this year. I will be back Monday to plug in my new toy.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Paul,

Does the Row Pro linked to the computer work without the need for a C2+?

I only have a D and would really like to get hooked up for internet racing.

So can I just buy this Row-Pro and plug it in and away I go? I am a bit of a novice when it comes to computers and fancy stuff like linking.

Enjoy your week-end!

Rocketboy,

Both Steve and I, along with 14 other ergers, will be participating in the alpha testing of RowPro 1.7. The alpha testing is to destroy most of the bugs in the software before the software is released to the beta phase. The beta phase is to squish the remaining bugs and then the product goes to market. Alpha testing should be underway in a few days.

We hope to show that any combination of PM2+/e-row, PM2+/RowPro, PM3 Model C/RowPro PM3 Model D/RowPro works over the internet. I will try the first three combinations in workouts and impromptu races with other ergers around the world. I don't have a Model D, so I won't be able to try that variation. But, I suspect that if the PM3 Model C/RowPro works, the Model D with Rowpro will work also.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
There are just different electrical signal conditioning happening on the front end (in hardware and software), the rest of the software is 100% identical...

Good luck in the testing!

-- Scott
